All in the Name of ALS (revisited)
Yes, it's that time of year again folks. We are doing the poetry unit in our language arts class. Around the same time last year I posted the only poem I ever have on this website, and I figured I'd soup up that same poem for this year. It's still up for tweaking as I just wrote it (it's pretty late right now) and I've got to hand it in tomorrow. You've got to know quite a bit about Jason Becker to relate to it, but try anyways. Please reply quickly, I need feedback before I hand it in.
All In the Name of A.L.S
You took his incredible talent and life away,
Now he’s nearly dead in a wheelchair paralyzed,
If he could he would still pick up a guitar and play,
But his only communication is through a computer and the movements of his eyes.
His accomplishments all made before he was twenty,
Guitar playing that touched hearts and blew minds,
If only he weren’t disabled today,
His name would be known throughout mankind.
Don’t think for a second that Jason’s brain dead,
His optimism is the most incredible I’ve ever seen,
He’s got albums worth of songs written inside his head,
I’ll show you his video and you’ll know what I mean.
He could blaze across a fret board with such melody,
You’d swear you were listening to heaven,
Criticizing him would be considered felony,
His rating out of ten would be eleven.
A master of his instrument he was born to be,
Bringing in a whole new generation of guitarists in his wake,
We desperately need a cure for ALS you see,
So he can once again play for music’s sake.
It’s not a matter of opinion that Jason is a god,
Not thinking so would be absurd,
Even when he was too weak to pick up a guitar,
He wrote the most beautiful songs you’ve ever heard.
Yet all this almost taken away in the name of A.L.S
But his perseverance inspires countless people including me,
Even in his few years of fame there was success,
He changed lives with his musical genius don’t you see?
So remember the name Jason Becker,
For he makes all of your bragging untrue,
Remember that name boys and girls,
Because Jason’s better than you.
