Genz Benz El Diablo 100 head

Hey dudes i was just wondering whether anyones played this head? Is it any good compared to other amps in its price range? (eg marshall tsl/dsl, laney vh100, peavey xxx/5150 etc) I was reading some shit one day and came across it.

I ve been searching for the head in england for ages, but to no avail . So if any english people have seen em in the shops tell me.

they're pretty good... if you like really compressed low end heavy high gain sounds like a recto... decent cleans... loud...

i'd say they're like a step sideways from a 5150, jcm 2000, recto, ect. type amp.

derek from rocksolidamps doesnt carry the el diablo series because they're not up to par with the other amps he sells... and i totally agree. he carries the cabs though because the g flex cabs rock.

Between this amp and the Randall RM I went with the RM. The thing is crazy nice and can give Mesa, Marshall, Bogner, and Fender a run for their money. I think people decide not to give the RM a real chance because it seems that no amp can cover that vast a tone area without being a modeling POS amp. Well, it can but the El Diablo was a nice amp too. It was nice but kinda limited to a single voicing tone.

I wonder how they sound, they're rare over here, so rare even that I never ever saw one in a shop. I played those cabs though but the heads, never.

but if Derek doesn't sell them because they're not up to standards compared to the other amps, I probably wouldn't be all too impressed by it

i'd say they're on about the same level. the el diablo is a bit more "Distortion" oriented though.

personally i'd probably take the tsl(or even better, a jcm 900 slx)...

ha, remember that it is only "emulating" those amps. it's still not that same thing. i do admit they're nice, and the concept is very unique.... but it's still only an immitation. the recto module for example, doesnt sound exactly like a recto, and you lose a tone of features... and the xtc module, pshhh, weak sauce compared to the complicated beast of the real ecstacy... as for the marshall ones, that's hard to get authentic sounds, because marshalls are sooo dependant on the powersection(which is why the ones with s.s. powersections suck ).
the fender ones imo were the closest ones to the origionals. and the origional modules(ultra, modern, clean, ect.) are a hit or miss.

check out a real egnator one, the ones that the randalls are modeled after. it's like stepping up from a high end epiphone to a high end gibson.

well, the main thing, it wasnt really advertised... so it never got the chance to explode. seriously, these things have been out for several years at least.

not to mention the price, even the cheapo randall ones arent exactly "cheapo". i mean, for the cost of the head unit and three modules... you could choose from a huge selection of incredible heads.

well, c'mon though man, look at what he sells... framus, engl, and splawn... i mean, those are pretty high standards. alot of GREAT amps don't quite hit that standard.

I like the tsl but for me it lacks something, i dunno wat but it definetely lacks that extra something. The slx on the other hand is pretty good, but tis only a one channel head and i need a clean channel.

I really want to try the el diablo out, it seems real versatile, looks real good and hopefully will sound good. Also hardly anyone else in england will have it, which will be good
