Bands like Taproot and shit like that. All the new bands (well, all the bands from 2000 to today) that can be seen with their teen angst sad/dark videos with their heavy parts sneaking in a bit, but for the most part its just sing-songy gay shit. Chevelle's another one. I can't think of many right now, because I'm lucky enough to look away from the evil light beam of MTV when it's on. But that kind of "metal" scene is just not metal at all, obviously. So many bands are coming out--quite melodic bands--that are taking over the metal scene. That's why I have to resort to brutal death metal and grindcore. It seems like anything else is melodic poser shit.
(hey, somebody had to give the kid a break and reply to his thread.)

Ah well still I kinda 'respect' linkin park because actually this was the band that introduced me to "rock" music... and that was my path to metal. As a matter of fact, loads of people I know started it with LP... I can't imagine how I could like them so much (they were my favourites for such a long time). I still like a few of their songs though (those that dont have that shitty RAP inside... I think LP w/o Mike would manage to be 100 times the band they are now...

Dude, I saw this video on Headbanger's ball and it had this video from a band called Trivium and the song was called "Pull harder on the strings of Martyr" or something like that. They're like some new-age/metalcore band, and their vocals annoy the hell outta me, but I swear their played one of the most kick ass guitar solo's I've heard in a long time, you guys should check that song out.

The singer in Trivium (Matt Heafy) is also the singer in Capharnaum. Capharnaum are immeasurably better than Trivium by virtue of Jason Suecof's amazingly technical (yet still catchy) writing. Plus Capharnaum also have Martyr's Daniel Mongrain (recently played with Cryptopsy) among their considerable ranks. Check them out, you won't be disappointed.

Accually that song is annoying as hell. It's a disgrace to metal. The "so bad, it's good." idea may work on B-Movies but in music.....it's just plain bad.

Mostly they were selected because they're all irrefutably metal, but I like most of the bands listed. I actually picked them by looking over at my CD collection. Except for CC, who are mostly a concession to forum popularity since I really haven't followed them since Gallery. Which ruled.
Anyway, I think the question's stupid, and here's why: 'metal' is not a synonym for 'good,' and really that latter's all we should care about. A lot of people seem to think that Tool's metal; they aren't. But they do rule, which is a hell of a lot more important. All of this genre concern's a waste of time, energy, and green forum space. It's not as unlimited as it seems, you know.
