Ok. i am morbidly disgusted at my friends stupidy. here the brief story:
well, im always sending-up punk by playing 3 chords over and over and singing in a gay voice and playing this to him. well finally, my friend got pissed and we had an argument over a SUM 41 solo.

the solo was so fucking shit. it wasnt anywhere near a metal standard. its like a Kittie solo. well anyway. after he played me it. i was like " thats not difficult" and he said, and kept emphasising the stupidest line ever
"if you cant play it then how can you say its difficult"
so i would reply with something on the lines of
"im comparing it to metal"
He's such a fucking idiot. i couldnt comprehend on how fucking retarded he was. like, im probably a better guitar player, because he plays punk, and i play Technical D.M, D.M, and B.M, and this fag tries telling me that some solo with about 3 pull-offs, 2 hammer-ons, and some easy ass scale repeated is equally difficult as ANY metal.

I told him, sure there are some metal bands that arnt very technical but the majority are WAY more techinical than punk music.

He just wouldnt accept the truth.

Now metalheads, give me really good arguments against SUM 41, Blink 182 etc. and i will printi them out, memorize them, and whoop his sorry ass back to the power chord DOMINATED music he thinks is techinical.

oh, and it cant just be "na, theyre gay" ; be really specific , but i mean, there are a million reasons. like holy shit, hes an idiot.

Punk music isn't supposed to be technical. REAL punk is supposed to be like the Dead Kennedys: 3 Chords, and political. It depends on what type of "punk" you're talking about. "Punk Rock" (the more modern kind) might be summed up by bands like NoFx. A good street punk band to go by is the Casualties. Then there are som just "straight-edge" hardcore punk bands, like "Gorilla Biscuits" and "Minor Threat". In the world of REAL punk, it is a never ending story. And most people will never know true punk music anyway. So I say fuck your friend, because he's no different than so many others. One person enlightened is basically useless. The fight for the label of "real" punk music has been going on for too long. That's one reason why I left the punk scene and reunited with metal. You're already on the right track making fun of the chord structures by playing them in a joke fashion. If you can learn the solo and then play it better than Sum 41 does or your friend does in a smartass fashion, then you will have your argument... Spinal Tap pissed off a lot of cheesy metal artists when it came out because they made a joke of them and delivered the riffs and solos in classic style. Anytime someone tells me that Creed is a good band I play them Dave Grohl's version of "With Arms Wide Open" where he totally mocks Scott Stapp's vocal stylings. Fuck it, learn the whole song and make it the best parody ever, then record it and spread it around the internet so all the Sum 41 haters out there can have a good laugh at their expense. When your friend sees his friends laughing at your song parody, he'll probably start to wake up and see how ridiculous the band is.

Sum41 is making a good move for themselves by playing a money making NuPunk which is about as punk as NuMetal is metal... it is but it isn't.

Anything in a post Metallica world is gonna have thrash guitar influence. Those guys in Sum41 were raised on thrash and priest & maiden etc. they love metal, but they play in a pop-punk band that is more metal than Green Day or Nirvana, but still ain't metal enough to call metal.

i saw them live (for free, my buddies band was the opener) and they played 4 Horsemen (um... that's a song off Kill Em All for any retards reading) ...and they played it note perfect.

Pop punk bands are not TRYING to shred. The solos are meant to be simple and tasty, not complex and showy. Shredding would be totally lost on a clear channel listener.

They suck. Simple. Next.

He likes Sum 41. Why are you friends with the guy? Why do you feel the need to prove him wrong when everyone on metaltabs, who have 10x the musical knowledge of your friend each, adding up to a large amount, know you're right and he isnt.

The four horsemen is a good thrash song but I could play it "note perfect" less than a year after picking up my first guitar. Even if they did play it right, it probably still sounded like shit.

Because we aren't so shallow that we need every one of our friends to be as metal as possible.

I wasn't asking why did he like him because he liked Sum 41. It was obvious in the first post that the guy seemed really annoyed with this "retarded" friend of his, which is why I wondered why he liked him.

I'd like to interject some random propaganda on behalf of Dave Mustaine and point out the fact that he wrote that song before he joined Metallica and it was called Mechanix. Since he eventually recorded Mechanix on Killing is My Business and since it blows Hetfield's gay rewrite of the song away, why does anyone ever bother learning how to play The Four Horsemen?

good point, i dont really know why i am still his friend. he pisses me off majorly. its weird though. weve been through a lot as friends, but he has also fucked up majorly, a good example was 'our' (his gay) band. which he fucked up cataclysmically. In one sentence : it was meant to be a punk/metal band but he wrote solos for himself (even though i was lead) and the second song was not even pop punk, and it was a love song; so i left.

SUM41 is bullshit. Tell him that and then slap him just because you can.

SUM41 is the kind of band that should never have gotten a record deal and the only reason they did was so some record company could manipulate their image and make money.

If that guy says that that particular SUM41 solo is as complex as any metal solo, then open up guitar pro, load up Danzig -Mother solo and tell him that is the tip of the iceberg.

Also, kick him in the nuts, and don't be friends with him. He's a bad influence
