dimebag squeals...
how does he do them?
and before you tell me, "go read the thread on pinch harmonics"
im talking about when he has his thumb balancing around fret 2 somewhere and waves his fingers about not touching the strings.
you can see 2 good examples of this at the end of the cemetery gates video.
it seems unlikely that he is pinching open strings, so what is he doing?

i think he might do a natural harmonic then pull up on the whamy bar, his hand wrapped around the board like that might just be what he does

there is a natural harmonic around the 2nd fret, wich i can only get when i pull up the bar and mute off every other strings, if i do it any other way i just get some dirty sound like amzegnfaukzxasvg, i never seen that clip so im not completely sure what he does, but maybe this gets u a bit closer

he does them on the 4th fret on the 3rd string. but theres a certian way to do it he uses his other fingers to keep feedback from coming from the other strings. i got the dimebag riffer madness book tells how to do them.

5 7 12 are natural (at the fret)
some of them are not at (or on) the fret but a little off it.
If you could get a copy of his riffer madness stuff from guitar world he has a HUGE lesson on them.

sounds like I want that lesson.
not that I can't do it. but I'de like to read what Dime wrote about it!
and yes, it's natural harmonic with a huge whammy dive. if you want dime style squeals, another way is a pinch harmonic, vibrate it heavily with your fretting hand and pull up the trem. if you trem has a lot of range you can do kickass squeals!

Hey def, back in the day when he did them he had a reward:
The first 50 dudes who could master it and prove it, would get a 6 pack from dime.
That man had fucking class

no shit?
haha, If I'de knew that, I would have flown to Texas
I first heard them back when I just got vulgar display of power in '98, thats six/seven years ago. I had to nail them and my guitar teacher explained them to me, man can you imagine how happy I was when I could actually do them myself!?!?
I was a 15 year old kid that couldn't play for shit back then but I could do a fucking pinch harmonic. how badass. hehe!
ah.. memories!

same as a pinch harmonic, right? only on the fret-side of the neck pu, you'll get another pitch on your squeals

Dude you guys know that one Damage Plan video (I don't know what song it is, but it's like their most popular video) where it's like black and white, and the vocalist is like fucking up the cabs and everything. There's a part in the song where it shows a view of Dime's guitar looking down the fretboard from the headstock and it shows his strings bouncing around like as if they were rubber bands. Does he really do that when he plays the song? Cuz I saw a video of him once where he's just jamming and he pushes so far down with the whammy that there's like no tension and his strings are like jiggling around.

i can do it on my dime, i use .09's and when you dive real high the strings drop and make a nice effect.

The verse riff, my guitar only has 22 frets but you dont need frets for harmonics anyway.
