Lol, you're right. It would seen kinda fubar.

In case you do join the Navy you will need to learn another language. Learn it now and you will be able to hold a conversation with the most salty of sea dogs. The language of the sea. Its an old archaic language that will confuse the hell out of both enemy, nubs, and other US forces; marines being partially immune.

I knew a portion of em, but definitely not a substantial amount. That list was pretty daunting.

haha that is still on the table as an option. doesn't seem like this type of thing would fly with the other branches. maybe these people are farting around too much in south beach and need to be stationed in alaska for a bit. at least i got a call back once i guess..but this is bullshit. the only thing i could see is that they are so busy, that they just let people leave messages and get back to them as they work through previous people. if that was the case though...i'd hire someone as a secretary to at least answer the phones so people know they aren't calling an office with nothing but a few dusty phones.

They're probably just closing shop at lunch. Work day done

It is a bad sign they never seem to follow up contacts. Doesn't seem like they really care about their jobs.

yea, i guess it could be lunch time...after all, i've been calling them on my lunch time. the only thing about that is that the only call back i've received was missed at exactly 12:00...then i called the number he left in the voice message (different number than the one he called from) at 12:27. no clue...

The way marine corps osos work. Is they have the officer, a sgt/sgt/gunny, and a civilian. (human resources manager). And at any one point in time one is on duty for sure.

Well, you know the AF. They are all probably playing golf right now. They could care less if their building was on fire

so i called them back the other day...the guy answered the phone!

i'm going to talk to him once or twice more to make sure i'm still ready, but i should be going into their office or wherever to take the AFOQT on the first monday of june. the next one is this monday, but i think it'd be better to take the next one and have some time to study.

in regards to dui/gpa/major, this guy definitely didn't say it the same way the enlisted guy did. he did say it made it tougher though. basically i just have to do better than average on the test and get a waiver for the dui. after that it shouldn't be a problem. i can take the test twice, so if i fuck up the first time, i have more time to run and study. they give it every first monday of the month. in the mean time, i'm going to be googling some AFOQT sample tests to determine my weaker areas (probably math since i haven't taken any of that shit in a long time..and the last classes i did take were called "math for liberal art students 1" and then i took number 2 after that. ) then study up on those areas before showing up to take the test.

he also mentioned since i have a non technical degree, the areas they'd likely put me in are limited. two he mentioned were pilot/navigator and the other was air battle management. i suppose how i do on the ASVAB will also play a part in what areas are suitable for me.

Yeah i took the Navy version of that test. I found it to be pretty easy and i heard its harder than the AFOQT. It was easy to me because i knew alot about flight and naval terminology (already had joined the marine corps by then) and i had studied for the AFOQT years before. Luckily for you you wont have to do any of the naval stuff which is nice. There were some questions that i completely guessed on.

But overall i thought it was fairly easy.

Its not completely a like knowledge thing. It is but its not.

There is a bunch of mechnical logic stuff that i wasn't too good on. I've never been really good at understanding pulleys, fulcums and other shit like that. Like simple physics kind of stuff.

But it has a math section which i thought was fairly easy.

just took a practice one and got 46 right out of 55. some i should've gotten right but i guess i didn't take my time and made simple mistakes that made me want to slap my forehead..but i did the worst on the section about mechanical knowledge of planes. i shouldn't known cowling pertained to the engine because of cowl induction camaros

also registered for the air force's own practice tests, but haven't received the email with my activation code yet.

http://home.manhattan.edu/~afrotc/o...%20Pamphlet.pdf thats the test i took earlier though

The test will be simple enough in the beginning. The hardest test I took when coming in was the Nuke entrance test. It was light years ahead of the ASVAB. Nothing but hard math, science, and engineering logic that would make a grad student sweat.

I did an Army job test thing on their website today, according to that I'm great material for them and from the jobs list I can do any of the things I wanted to do and about 60 other different things haha, just wait until they meet me and think "Jeez, what an utter cunt!"

Another two weeks and I'm going back with my forms and shite, I'm really bloody excited, I feel great, like I'm actually taking my life by the balls and doing something for myself!

Sounds good man. Just make sure you get whatever you want. Some recruiters (at least in the states) will pretend your scores aren't as good as they might actually be to fullfill certain job slots.

i agree...i've never been in the military before, just grew up surrounded by it...but i am excited about joining and it does feel like one of the biggest steps i've taken towards getting my life on track rather than sitting around and just getting by.

Thank goodness for sloppy planing and better intelligence. They might/maybe have kill a few guards but the gate guards are always ready for an assault... or at least they should be. They wouldn't have got much farther, of that I'm sure.

I hate to say it but I'm glad the target was a military target. I say this because the military ranks understand the risk they take. They are ready and committed to face danger. It is their job.

I much rather the military be a target than say a pre-school.

"It apparently showed 10 young men, including the six suspects arrested, firing guns as they shouted "Allah Akbar" (God is great)."

Good thing the U.S had trained intelligence to translate the real meaning of that quote!

haha at ocs our instructor was like.... want to know what allah akbar means? Two to the chest, one in the head... haha

I guess we are trained the moment someone says that to shoot em dead.

Yeah i know what you mean about attacking military. I tried to explain to this fucking idiot why its different that 32 students gets killed and we have flags going half massed, and national days of morning and so on and we don't for soldiers and marines. The mother fucker just could not understand the fundamental difference between completely innocent civilians getting massacred while going to school (ruining a good sense of security) and military getting killed in the line of duty DURING A WAR...

But anyways... ha

LMAO! Nice find The job and hours might suck but that doesn't mean it can't be fun.

I wish I had a camera running the whole time I was in the Navy. Most of my time was hard work but also priceless comedy.

90 million war records are released to the public. they are available on ancestry.com for free until d-day (june 6). you can look up old relatives that served. unfortunately i was having trouble narrowing it down since there are a bunch of people with the same names, and i'm not really sure where or when they were born. gonna have to ask my parents or grandmas.

talked to the af recruiter again today...according to him, if i do well enough on the test to get in, it will take a year for me to actually go to OTS. i called a naval recruiter today, but i had to leave a message, so hopefully i'll talk to them tomorrow.

A year to get in... like after enlistment? Or a year or waiting as a civilian? As a civilian i can believe it. Enlisted sounds like a bait and switch deal, granted thats illegal.

Good for you man. I'd chose navy personally. My friend from NC agrees with me. Hes in the air force and the opportunities aren't really there. (i know its hard to believe and contrary to popular belief) They are downsizing and being choosey as fuck.

Oh yeah and soul. You know you get a hard on for marines. Its hard i know. I look in the mirror and i get a raging hardon everytime i see myself or an eagle globe and anchor.

1 year waiting as a civilian. thats a long time...i'd have to renew my lease again.

tomorrow i'm going to meet with one of the air force recruiters..talk about my situation, get the papers i need to take the AFOQT monday, then he said we'd get some lunch on his (probably the usafs) dime and just shoot the shit.

the navy recruiter said it would take 3-4 months to go to officer school (forget what the navy calls it). she also said a lot of the same things the air force recruiter told me. only she seemed less optimistic about my below average GPA and the waiver i need for being arrested. she was saying the average officer in the navy has a 3.2, i had a 2.85. so she recommended the go in enlisted then switch over to the officer program, and said how it would be much easier to get in that way. then i mentioned to her that i had heard a lot of people go in with that plan but find out it's tough to juggle their actual job and try to get their shit together to become an officer. her reply was that a lot of those people don't already have a degree, so it's tough to do their job and finish up school at the same time. i can see what she'd mean there at least..but i'm still not sure. my dad is going to ask some of his friends in the navy, and i was going to call her again today (i forgot at my lunch break. ) so i'll probably have to call her tomorrow since i have all day off.

i'll probably take the test monday..see how i do..then take the navy test. i figure they can't be very different from each other, so the AFOQT will give me a good idea of what to expect on the navy test (ASBT?) and will also be great practice. i just have to make sure i do some decent studying this weekend...i have until monday..but i know how i get sometimes on the weekends.

Its basically the same test like i said except it has naval terms and what not.

I think all the things you've been told sound fairly legit. I can definitely see going enlisted. The only issue is you definitely have to put in for it.. But i don't REALLY see it being tat much of an issue. She is right. You do have a degree. All you have to do is be accepted into the program thats it. No programs to send you TO college or anything like that.

Its something to think about for sure.

say for some shitty reason i fail the tests and then just go in enlisted..do you know if my failing the tests would prevent me from becoming an officer after i was enlisted for a year? or would the tests not even matter at that point?

i'm not really worried about failing the test, but they were just saying i'd have to do exceptionally well because of my below average gpa and the waiver i'd need.

I don't know about EXCEPTIONALLY WELL... But you get like 3 chances at the test anyways.

I seen some Navy folk today.

He was a recruiter but I said hello via yelling, "Ye vast ye old saltly bulge rat. Yarr!"

He responded with, "You want an adventure, Shipmate!"

Me, "Been there, done that, Petty Officer dig it. Old Nuke be I."

Petty Office, "Ah! Civilians Mate... Fair cancer to ye, shipwreck!"

We nodded, got in our cars with a smirk just as casual and normal as anyone saying hello... I love how Navy folk jibe and humble each other lol

honestly..i haven't quite figured it out. i think thanks to my degree, i am limited in my options...but being a pilot would be damn fun! though that is almost the hardest job to get i assume..anything in a plane would be cool..get paid more for being in the air too.

Oh yeah i also traded for shit from the aussies. Everybody was trading this and that. I ended up trading a blouse and bottoms for a set of theirs. Which monetarily they gained big time haha. Our uniforms are like 80 dollars a pop, and i know theres isn't even remotely close to that.

thanks.

from here it's just physical, fitness test, formal interview, 3 recommendations and resume (i guess the last two are included in the interview). after that...i have a little down time until i move to pensacola. excited as hell but nervous at the same time. not to nervous..just the average butterflies i'd say since i've never done anything quite like this before.

haha jump school sounds fucking crazy. i guess i could do it..but i'd be nervous as all hell the first time. i'd probably request to get thrown out of the plane hah.

you take any pics over there on your walkabout?

Ok, I see one little Canadian Navy vessel in this picture. The carrier is the USS Enterprise. The supply ship also looks American owned due to paint color.

I have been on and seen many Canadian ships in my life and they are all painted a pale sea green. Commissioned American ships are all painted pale sea gray.

I'm not sure about that colour contrast..Halifax is main navy port and many of our ships are painted pale gray.

Twice this week a Navy recruiter called me trying to offer me a bonus to join the Navy I was like "Shipmate, I turned down $60K, LPO, and instant E-6 rank when I got out 10 months ago. I'm not going back unless I'm mobilized via my reserve time. I'm done with living that life."

All he could say was, "How does $10k sign on sound... I know I could get you that"

lol

That deal definitely sounds much more enticing than 60k and rank adjustment.

Well I am enlisted in the army for six years so far plan on doing the full twenty and retiring. It's what you make out of it, all you really have to do is be at the right place at the right time, and stay put of trouble. If you have a problem with authority it's going to be rough. I know alot of times I wanted to punch some Seargent First Class's and tha face, but thta gets you no where. I am now a Staff Seargent. Its pretty easy man. The only hard part is the deployments. Army being the worse. I have spent 2 tours in Iraq and am on my third right now, Which blows even more because I got extended for the additional 3 Months. so a 15 month deployment. Its hard on my wife. So if your married make sure you discuss it with her and she relises what she is getting into. The navy does about 6 month tours along with the airforce. and the marines do a 7 month tour. Wish the other branches would kick it up a knotch so I can get a break. All army tours over in IRaq and Afghanistan are now 15 months long. If anyone has any questions regarding any info on the military just send me a message.

Thank your contributions.

But i'm just gonna say don't say we need to kick it up a notch because i'm pretty sure the marine corps is doing MORE than their portion for this. But i'm not going to get into that arguement, if one doesn't realize how much of a contribution the marine corps is and is doing and will do then its not worth even talking about.

Although i could only sympathize with you more (me being a marine, and me also being from a marine family) thats just how the army is and set up to be. A large occupying strategic force whos primary goal is sustainment. Be thankful you have ONLY done 2 tours. I know plenty of guys who have done 3 or 4 9 months deployments.

Deployments definitely suck on family. You definitely have to have a strong woman who is willing to spend a very long time alone.

well speaking as a civilian..i can see how deployment sucks. hopefully i'll be going through OCS and whatever other training/school i have to do, which will take enough time where they won't even ship me out. either way..i have no lady at home, so she wouldn't have to worry about me being gone for a while.

haha this isn't the draft and this isn't vietnam. They aren't going to give you 2 seconds of training then send you out to be cannon fodder.

You are undeployable until you have been through ALL of your training and you are in the fleet. You wouldn't be deployable for almost a year AT LEAST, depending on your mos. trust me you're not going anywhere.

i know i won't be going anywhere for a while..i'm just saying hopefully by the time i'm through with all my initial training, bush is out and we aren't still sending more people over there. but even if it was still going any went..at least i don't have to worry about my wife or girlfriend leaving me since i don't have one. though that could change in the time from now till then. gotta meet some pensacola or navy ladies. hah

how does that work anyway? if i married someone in the navy, would they move us around together or something?

yes the military tries to keep them stationed at least 50 miles from you, allowing you to live together.

And.. we aren't going to get into a commander and chief discussion but just because bush will leave office doesn't mean that there couldn't be deployments, and going into the navy you better know what you're getting into because it kind of seems like you don't.

You are on the ship... ALL THE TIME. you think deployments are bad, you will spend about half of your career away from home. Thats how it works. You do like 3 year interval changes. Where for 3 years you spend 6 months on a ship, then like 3 or 6 months at home, then back for another 6 month tour. Then you get a 3 year duty on land.

Correct me soul but i'm pretty sure thats how it is. The navy spends more time away than any other service BY FAR.

haha, and no..that's not all we have either.

We have a large navy in proportion to our population.

Are those Tomcats on deck? Didn't they take them out of service?

Or is it just an old pic?

America no longer has them in service but that doesn't mean canada doesn't have em.

Hell Iran uses em....

Thought Soul said that was the USS Enterprise?

I know they're still in service all over the world, hell there's probably guys still flying F4's. The french still have some old Tornado's in the air.

I don't know...I know we still have F-18 Hornet's in service though.

"During the Gulf War, Canada sent 24 CF-18s to Qatar to participate in the American-led Desert Shield and Desert Storm campaigns. Canadian Air Force pilots flew more than 5700 hours and 2700 sorties.

Since the September 11 terrorist attacks, Canada’s fighter force has been committed to protecting North Americans from future threats. Armed CF-18s are deployed across Canada to protect the nation from threats originating within our own airspace. The CF-18 is also involved in Operation Noble Eagle—NORAD’s mission to safeguard North American skies."

And.. we aren't going to get into a commander and chief discussion but just because bush will leave office doesn't mean that there couldn't be deployments, and going into the navy you better know what you're getting into because it kind of seems like you don't.

The navy spends more time away than any other service BY FAR.

hah well i think some of the times you have misunderstood my posts, but i have learned a bit after asking you guys questions. the bush thing was a bit tongue in cheek. i know we aren't pulling out right after he is out of office.

however, i didn't know about being on a ship "ALL THE TIME" or the 3 year intervals. sounds half shitty half not so bad. i was alright with moving around every few years. the ship will be ok at least at first..but i think that is the same for everyone. once the initial novelty wears off...its just another day on the ship waiting to go to port or home.

that 50 miles apart bit kinda sucks..but i guess a place in the middle wouldn't be too bad of a commute. my dad used to drive from alexandria, va down to quantico every day for a while. honestly not sure how many miles that is..but it wasn't my favorite drive to make whenever we went there.

Thats not a bad drive at all. haha Trust me it generally works out better than you might think as far as living close enough to a base. They do a pretty good job of not making it too difficult.

Also thats just navy life man. I mean just expect to be on a ship quite a bit of the time. Trust me you'll have fun and all that. Talk to Soul about it. Marines its a similar thing. We go on meus and float around the oceans for 6 months.

living off base would be cool too since i could get to keep some snakes or spiders for a bit..but i guess it would be best to do that on my 3 year land stints and not when i'm on and off ships. unless i can find a woman that is willing to care for them while i'm gone.

what are meus? military expedition unit ships? hah just a guess..probably wrong.

oh, and i meant to ask you about jump school? that sucks about not making it..did you at least get to do some jumps? or was it more of a pre-screening selection process?

I was wrong about that. It's actually the USS JFK. Built about the same time as the USS Enterprise so they look a like. My bad

The biggest difference being one is nuclear powered and the other isn't.

Hahahaha, sailors can't hold their liquor.

Not that that's news. I get a lot of drinking with Navy fags in Chicago and I've yet to meet one to impress me, aside from my friend who was kicked out for alcohol-related mental problems (actually he's just a crazy drunk, but the navy is full of pussies). Now he's banned for life from working for any government service in any capacity whatsoever. Pussies.

i can drink quite a bit more than my friend in the navy..well actually he isn't in anymore, so maybe that doesn't count.

honestly, i think my drinking is going to go into a serious decline until after OCS. i've heard more than a couple people tell me that they didn't stop until a few incidents involving them puking during their morning run thanks to staying up and drinking a bunch the night before.

Puking during the morning run is the best part. The whole morning work out makes the hangover go away real fast.

And before anybody mentions that I've never been in the military, keep in mind that I worked a job that had me doing strenuous work (more strenuous than a marine workout, or at least any that doesn't involve dragging around pieces of scrap metal the weight of my upper body with unprotected hands and throwing them into a dumpster) in the South Texas sun every morning starting at 6, and spent most evenings drinking until 2 or 3, so I should know what I'm talking about in this aspect at least.

i've been told this before..but i still have trouble believing it. of course..i won't find out for sure until i actually convince my self to go run while i feel like shit. like right now. i woke up with most of my last drink still sitting in a cup on my desk, and one of my guitars in bed with me.

was filling out some forms online today since they just set up some online application process for OCS..and after looking around on some other pages, i found out that OCS has been moved from pensacola, fl to newport, ri. kinda glad to know that i won't be stuck in florida still. rhode island is a little farther north than i would like to go, but then again, i've never lived up there before, so i'll see how it goes. sure as hell won't miss the heat and humidity down here..or the hurricanes (though at times, those are pretty fun).

also found out that the physical requirements are slightly different than i had anticipated. slightly less push ups, more sit ups, a little more time to run the 1.5 miles, and the swim is the same though.
