Opeth's set up! Help!
First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong thread. I looked at "gear and recording" but wasn't sure if that was right either.
Right, I'm trying to get Opeth's Black Rose Immortal sounding right. I've got a Marschall MG15 amp and a cheap distortion pedal. But the pedal won't work (properly) unless the amp is set with distortion and then I can't get it into clean for the accoustic parts without turning the distortion off on the amp. I'm trying to get this ready for an audition and I don't know what to do. Do you think I should just leave it in clean? I really need some advice.
If you live, or ever come to, England, there's a beer in it for anyone who helps me

go to the website, www.opeth.com , click discography, click MR, for morningrise, a click on gear/equipment/setup or whatever it says, and look there for the setup they used for the album. i know for a fact that on MR they used a boss mt-2 for distortion.

Haha yeah it says that they used BOSS Heavy Metal and Turbo Distortion pedals. Couple albums later they're using much better shit.

Lately they have been using stock PRS custom 24's through a boss GT-6 and a laney vh-100 amp. When they are playing live, all their distortion comes from the GT-6's.

So that GT-6's dist. sound pretty good? What else do they use it for, do they use it for all their other effects?

Yep. I read some interview with Akerfeldt (sp?) in which he said that all their live effects come from the gt6. He also said that they never use the amp's distortion live. He liked it like this because all he has to do is find an amp with a decent clean tone to run his gt6's through, plus replacing gt6's is a hell of a lot easier than replacing an amp.

Anyone know the settings he uses on the GT-6 ... I have one but don't use it enough ... haven't been able to get a good sounding tone out of it (i like the effects but can't find a way to use just single effects w/it effecting my overal tone)
