I'm mainly a death metal/grindcore guy. And when played on acoustic, those types of songs just sounds like Andy Griffth having a seizure.
There are some metal songs (like some old Metallica) that use acoustics. Those, since they were written for it, sound fine. But there are only so many metal songs that would switch nicely, in my opinion.
I try to stay away from it though. Whenever I play the acoustic, I end up playing Simon and Garfunkel or something. Not good for the metal diet.

I've done the reverse.I made a death metal version once of a beatles song, and "The Lonesome death of hattie Carole" by bob dylan.

This was actually an assignment in a classical guitar class I took a long time ago. Everyone had to take a song they liked with full band and vocals and then convert it to a fingerpicked classical version. The basic rhythm is thumb picked and the vocal melody and any other melodies are finger picked. It was definitely good experience. I guess if you made an art of it you could sell your material to the Muzak corporation for some easy money. I did the Scorpions "No one like you" (keep in mind this was 1986, I was a beginner, and tablature for the heavier/faster bands was practically non-existent at the time). If websites like this one existed back then I would have gone crazy on it.
