how much are you willing to spend?
are you looking to use it for just fx or are you looking for preamping and distortions?

i ve got a gt6 and although the fx and shit sound really good, i rarely use them, most of them are just useless, the gt6 is also very big and bulky which is annoying wen ure trying to cart it around from gig to gig, so i'd look for somet smaller or maybe rack fx, with a small midi pedalboard

dude, buy a decent preamp for that kind of money. you will not be satisfied with the boss. you can get an engl e530 preamp for like 450 shipped to you brand new. there are few amps period that can compete with this preamp. but even some of the rocktron pre's are very nice for under 300. you must all ready have an amp so all you'd have to do is run the pre into that using the amp's power section only. go and pick up a few decnt pedals for the fx you'll use.

+1... kinda
but where the fuck can you get an engl 530 for $450 shipped? rocksolid amps is even $480+shipping and derek has unbeatable prices for engl.
and good luck finding one used.
you could do what i did when i ran all rack... buy a nice midi preamp like a jmp-1 or something + a good power amp... and then buy an fx rack unit like a rocktron replifex to use for your fx if you need any. then just run that in the fx loop... or instead of the preamp + poweramp setup you could just buy a head and keep a separate rack for accessories.. that's what i'm currently doing.
the amp doesnt neccisarily have to be midi... the rocktron replifex and t.c. g major both have channel switching features on them so any 2-3 channel head can be controlled via midi.

ok. i thought he had them for 430. so it'd be about 500. still a huge deal for what that amp is. but even an ada mp1 and it's controller could be found for 300~ on ebay. those are great preamps, too. those preamps/fx multi units are good for what they do but they usually compromise quality and accuracy for cramming all that shit into one small confine. the actual usable range of the parameters is very small. you could have 16 distortion settings with each one having a range of 11 on the gain but the gain only really has an audible difference every 2 or 3 ticks. 6,7, and 8 all sound the same but when you get to 9 there's a huge amount of gain added. that's why you're better off getting your main sound with an amp/preamp than pedals and effects units. especially if you use the effects sparingly.

You should look into a Digitech 2101. It's got killer distortion. I just got one off E-bay for $300. I also have a Rocktron Voodu Valve, and it's cool to. I'm trying to figure out how to run them together, mabey thru the MIDI.

you can control them both via midi.. but you need some sort of splitter/buffer unit like an axess electronics bs-2....

the digitech 2101 is definitely one of the good preamp processors available. just make sure you get it upgraded. i used to do these upgrades where i worked. it's usually not more and a hundred dollars or so but you get better sample rates for the effects and better sound quality on the preamps among other things. for 2-300 dollars these things are great. they were like a grand when they first came out. i have one that i keep in my studio just to have. i got it for about 150 and took one of the modules from where i worked and did the upgrade. i don't use it any more for anything but post editing and maybe messing around with harmonies but i would never get rid of it.

I have an GT-6 since a few weeks. Its great at what it does, but expect loads and loads of tweaking. It's not exactly plug&play
