Muting Tips?

not palm muting, actual string muting...i cant seem to stop strings from ringing out on faster runs...i know it's second nature once you get it, but when i try to mute i try to just lay my hands across the strings really quick, but when i let go they ring out..

any tips?

maybe let go a little slower, or more carefull, alseo make sure when u mute the strings that u dont mute right on a s[pot where a harmonic is, maybe that caused the ringing
also say u play this

-------3-4-6-
-3-4-6--------
when u get to the higher string, try to place ur finger against the upper string to mute it

also practice helps

This is definitely all about discipline when pulling your finger off a string and avoiding unwanted contact with adjacent strings. I play with my fingertips upright, so it might be different for you depending on how you play. When a particular trick is known to result in unwanted ringing, then use your right or left hand as necessary to mute the strings during this maneuver. There are so many different possibilities of this that they really aren't worth mentioning because you need to figure them out for your own style. If you are recording or playing live and there are no open strings notes in the song you are playing, then permanently mute them at the nut. They actually sell these gay little muting rockers for this purpose if you want to "permanently" mute individual strings for a song.

practice is slow and work up the speed with a metronome.
