Is there a new Floyd Rose out?
On Kerry King"s new guitar his Floyd Rose has the wammy right in the middle of the bridge! It's not off on the side it's right in the middle of it. So is this a new Floyd Rose model or something. For a picture he's on the back of this months Guitar World.

Yep, kahler. You can screw the bar in in the middle or bottom, everyone seems to like the middle better

My ignorance is about to surface but I must ask.....are whammys floating and go high/low or do they just lie flat on the body and you can only go low?
I ask because none of my guitars are set up with them and it seems (not sure) that I have seen both types.

If it's a recessed tremolo, then you can do swells (going up), but if it's not a recessed cavity, then you're really limited to diving (down). Recessed meaning they cut out the body to make a opening so you can pull it up without the edge of the bridge touching the guitar.

So then tuning would seem to be a little harder to achieve.....or is that not a factor with the recessed tremelo?

I'm actually not sure about that, but I don't think it affects the tuning.
This is a recessed, you can see like where the fine tuners are, the body of the guitar is cut out.

And this is a non recessed, see how it's not cut out.

Having a non recessed would actually be easier to change the strings, cuz the screws that are connected to the clamps that hold the string, you can access them easier compared to a recessed one, where the screws are in the damn hole and it's like hard to get in there.

Sorry but there is nothing new about his bridge. It is in fact a Kahler, like what everyone else said, and they have been around for many many years. They are the best imo and cost a bit more. I have never liked useing the middle hole for the bar but some do.

OH MY GAWD!
Floating bridges suck.. if you feel you MUST make nonsense squeels and noises then feel free to spend all the time you want setting the Floyd up..
Ill stick with a Kahler if I need a trem. Oh.. and Floyds on 7 string tuned in B with .52-10 strings needs 5 sprind and the claw screwed into the body pretty far... that takes most of the fun out of TRYING to use the floyd, way too much tension.
