My leads need more than distortion..

I have Boss MT-2 distortion pedal right now, but I am looking for something to make leads and solo attempts a bit more fun. I really like stuff like carcass, impaled, etc. Down-tuning and playing techniques aside, what would be the best pedals to get their type of lead sounds? What should I pair with my distortion pedal? Should I get a wah? tremolo? sustain? chorus? Help me out here.. thanks

I should get a boss ge-7 equalizer. You can make some good adjustments with that pedal. Also a sustain pedal would be nice to have those killer scream tones. And if you're a fan of it, A crybaby also adds a lot to your sound

thanks man.. i guess i am looking mostly for more sustain, which i see the thread below is about but i didn't read that until i wrote mine. i know that it mostly has to do with the guitar, and the player, but are sustain pedals worth it?
i was also looking at crybaby wah pedals, but all of the sample sounds have lame classic strumming examples.. can you think of a song that is a good example of a wah in death, black, or thrashl?

Well, kerry king (slayer) uses a crybaby in the disciple and bloodline solo's. He willl probably use it alot. He also uses it in angel of death i think but i'm not really sure. Haven't heard the song for a while. But yeah, Just look through slayers stuff. Kerry king uses it all the time

compression adds sustain and lets you cut trough the mix better,
eq... should i explain this? no-one should do witouth means of equalization
wah is nice, but not necceseraly
chorus or flanger add a nice touch, but only if you're already cutting trough the mix

Thanks for all the suggestions.. I found a great deal on a boss super chorus pedal on eBay, so I am getting that first.. I'll experiment with that. I have a Boss AC adapter for my current pedal, and I have the power coupling cable for chaining other pedals to it.. should one AC adapter be able to run both pedals at the same time?

I use a daisy chain for footpedals, but i carry backup adapters because i know its gonna fuck me up one day,and for solo's you can go wrong with a bit of delay.

i notice a big loyalty to kerry king around the forum.. what about jeff hanneman?? i always thought hanneman was better, but at the very least they are equals. kerry king has the endorsements, and i don't see jeff hanneman representing shit.. why? because he doesn't have that WWF/Biker look?

Kerry King sucks..

Jeff writes the better songs and solo's... but he gets wasted before he plays and rips his fans off by fucking up his own solo's live.. so he sucks too.

Altogether Slayer is very mediocre IMO. They dont have much going for them, their tone is generic, their songs are all based around the same notes.. they just lost their appeal.

i hear ya, BLS.. i have not listened to slayer since divine intervention.. which was not a bad album, but a definite change in their style (nothing to do with the drummer). it seems like after that, they just lost their bite.. like people no longer looked in disgust at a slayer shirt or something.. i dunno. i absolutely love early slayer, but they just stopped doin it for me around divine.. then again i sort of fell off metal in general at that point, and for years only retaining interest in very few metal bands.

slayer have lost their touch defintely....

I have to admit kerry and Jeff are both amazing guitar players. But they do fuck around with the same notes constantly. Read between the lies and raining blood for example -_- And south of heaven and spill the blood -_-

It's cheap..

A question:

if you use like a MT2 or so for distortion, and you want a chorus/delay on the clean sound... is that possible?

Unless you have a foot extra, for pressing both the distortion out and the FX on at the same time.

i was thinking more of experimenting with the MT-2 and the chorus CH-1 at the same time. a chorus (in conjunction with the reverb on the amp) should smooth off that buzzing, truncated-note sound that the MT-2 alone gives. if it can accomplish that, it would be the cure to the MT-2 for me, anyway.

have you considered trying a different distortion pedal?

are you using the mt-2 for your main distortion or as a boost?

the mt-2 is my main distortion. i am not an advanced guitar player, so i don't have fancy-ass gear so far. the pedal alone is not the greatest, but when i mix it with the overdrive and reverb on my combo amp, i get some pretty kool sounds.. satisfying enough for now, anyway. i don't like how the mt-2 sounds on the clean channel, though. basically i just want to experiment with effects because i like to play distorted. i only play clean when i am practicing a riff or some scales repeatedly and i want to watch out for fret buzz and other problems.
what i would really love to do is make a component amp setup (head & cabinet) but i don't have the $ for that now. in the meantime, a pedal here and there will have to suffice.

Wah, delay, eq, other time effect pedals

Wah, use it as a wah or all the way on as a filter.
Delay can be used as an echo/delay type effect as well as a chorus as a chorus is nothing but a delay with no repeat function.
EQ- pretty much self explanatory.
Other time based effects like phaser/flanger/harmonizer etc...

I have the Engl powerball, the marsahll jcm 2000 dsl100 and the 5150 II (this last one isn´t mine, but i can use it). I like this one the best. I´m thinking to change the marsahll for one 5150 (I or II)or 6505.
Do you know where are the cheapers new 5150 s in USA???, maybe I´ll buy it there if they are going with the new stuff (6505), I think they´ll be cheap., NOw the € is 2better" than the $ dolar.
