Fields Of The Nephilim
Fields Of The Nephilim
I can't stress how much these guys kick ass. They're like a combination of Opeth, Insomnium, and Rotting Christ. I just heard one or two songs not too long ago and I nearly say these guys are the best thing I've heard in a long time.

for starters, i thought that was awful. Then i thought it was weird that they've been around since '83 or 4. But i realized lots of bands have, so i wondered why that seemed weird in the first place. maybe the style. Then i couldnt get over the way they used to write their name, in that fucking western text! The hats, all the albums. The band looked a little eerie but not really in a good/cool way. The singers voice is crap. I was expecting something waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay different. probably because you compared them to insomnium, which blows my mind cause i couldnt find the slightest similarity. Almost every sample made me want to kill myself, except for the ones from zoon, during that i was to busy wondering why the fuck it sounded like a different band other than the singer doing that "singing" voice like on the old stuff. Im glad i checked it out, i even like portions of the NEW stuff. Im probably making it sound like i hated them, but mailny im just surprised, it wasnt that bad.

I only heard stuff from Zoon, and in Penetration they did something that reminded me of something from Insomnium. Sorry if I was misleading, I but stand behind what I said earlier, they kick ass. But that's my opinion. None the less I think the whole hat thing is cool, it reminds me of that Dracula movie that was released in the 90's.

I went back and heard some stuff from their older albums, and I'll agree it's not so great but standable eitherway. I like the whole melodic death sound of their new stuff, but the old I can live without. Too damn slow it's depressing.

Fields Of The Nephilim were part of the British Goth scene of the 80s that included such luminaries as The Sisters Of Mercy. I didn't think that anybody would mention them in comparison to a band like Opeth.

heh, thats what i was getting at when i said it makes me want to kill myself. Its strange how different their new stuff is from the old isnt it. They seem pretty well known so im surprised to have never heard of them. There were cool parts on zoon.
edit: sounds to me that if they keep evolving this way, they could turn into to something really good. by that i mean something i could buy and like.

Their new stuff has some Opeth qualities. They can go from being melodic death to really slow and acoustic in a heartbeat. Trust me, don't let their old stuff fool, as I've found out.
