They probably feel that it's now en vogue to give this album bad reviews and as with sheep, they just follow the crowd. As sure as each journalist was ready to crawl over the next to fawn at ITDS (which is a great album anyway), they're now doing the exact opposite by slating AOTW.

Regardless, I'm going to love this album as soon as I get my grubby mitts on it.

john, i agree with what youre saying, but its not entirely true. for instance - i love ITDS and BSoV but this album really doesnt do it for me. there's no egyptian qualities to it other than a few instruments. it sounds , as ive said, like deeds of flesh. to my ears, its not the best comparison, but it is really not the nile i like. if you like nile ,youll probably like this album, but i really dont like it at all. dont completely write off every bad review just because lots of people teamed up on it.

I haven't heard this one, but sometimes great bands deserve to be panned. Obviously they should be if they suck, but even if they do something that would be acceptable by any other standards, they should be reminded that they're capable of ruling in the rudest way possible. Sub-par Nile's better than most influx death metal, but the fact that it's Nile means it should be incredible; if it isn't, I sure as hell don't care. This, by the way, would explain why I don't like Souls to Deny, or, for that matter, Brave New World.

But, like I said, I haven't heard the new Nile, so maybe it does rule and the critics are assholes. I'm just trying to say, through whatever the bar fed me under the semblance of whisky tonight, that we've been known to give a band too much credit for past triumphs. Sometimes, bands play out sooner than we'd hope. Look at Metallica; Orion's still ahead of the game, but now they give us riffs that were tired when Iommi lost his fingertips. But give me a listen and I'll weigh in for sure.

Souls To Deny rules! It's one of my favourite albums from the last two or three years.

I found it to be Suffocation Lite; better than the Suffoclones but in the same vein. They've always followed a certain formula (see Suffocation live and Terrance Hobbes will unintentionally convince you of this as he makes particular faces depending on the riff 'type' he's playing), but it never really felt formulaic until Souls to Deny. When I saw them live the show lapsed completely when they went through their obligatory handful off it.

On the other hand, if I were half the Suffofan (I love that prefix!) you are I'd probably find even subpar Suffocation head and shoulders above the competition.
