sweeping and time signitures
i dont think time signitures is the right words.
an awful lot of sweeping i hear is in triplets, due to the nature of 5 and 6 string sweeping, it seems natural to arange them that way.
but i think it sounds much better in a 16th (or 32nd) note sweep.
ok sorry, im waffleing.
tips, tricks, and examples of non triplet sweep patern construction please.

The problem lies in getting a number of notes that is divisible by 4, and can be phrased in a suitable way. I mean, play a 5 string sweep in an A minor like shape. The way I do it, I get 12 notes. Sure, I could play those 12 notes as 16th notes, but then I end up one beat short of a bar of 4/4. So the question is (the way I interpreted it): How do you construct sweeps that function well as 16th notes in 4/4?

Just tell the band that you want the 4th bar in the solo to be 3/4, even though the song you're covering is straight 4/4?
The point being, you don't always have that option. And what do you do then?

im sure there is loopholes, there always seems to be (pot would know) but if you were covering a band then why would you change the sweeping in the first place (or did i misunderstand you there?)

If you want to play 12 notes in a 4/4 bar, just play them in regular 8th note triplets. Where's the problem ?

Here's an obvious example...
Code:
-----------------
-------1-4-------
-----3-----2-----
---2---------3---
-4-------------1-
-----------------

ah sorry i probably didnt explain myself properly...
im not covering any bands, im trying to put sweeps into my solos.
and im trying to avoid triplets.
G_urr_a and powersofterror have the right idea, i want sweeps with 8, 16, 32 or 64 notes, so thanks for that example.
but i was trying to get the longer fluid sweeps without using the bottom string(laziness).
so far the only way ive been able to do it is to put 2 non arpegio notes inbetween 6 note sweeps.
yes i could start late or finish early, but it sounds unfinished to me.

whats wrong with that, if its sounds good then fuck the rules man
thats like your never supposed to double the 3rd of a chord cause its 'unstabble' but i think it sounds good

pfft who came up with that rule? you can do what ever you like with chords. i once made a chord entirely out of C# notes. i think i called it Db something.
i was just wondering if id missed anything obvious thats all

Haha, I think I hadn't read at all your post because my previous suggestion was exactly what you're trying to avoid.
My advice would be : get some inspiration from shred tabs (eg Yngwie, Angelo, etc.) they surely got some new sweep constructions for you.

I understand what you're saying, basically that triplet 2 octave sweeps can get kind of boring. Here's an example of what I might do:
-----------------12-17-12---12-17-12--------------------------------
--------------13----------13----------13-----------------------------
-----------14----------------------------14---------------------------
--------14----------------------------------14------------------------
-12-15-----------------------------------------15---------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a basic 2 octave A Minor arpeggio (A C E). All you really have to do is resweep or replay part of the arpeggio. This can also make that part of your solo sound a bit more unpredictable than the regular 8th note triplet sweeps. Try this little trick in different parts of the arpeggio until you find some you like.
