How do you do this?
I need somebody to tell me: are the sustain pedals any good? I want to know because i want to have the kind of sustain that Kerry King of Slayer has in the end of the song Dead skin mask. Should I buy a compressor/sutainer or is that just wasted money?

Sorry to budge in on this thread but i was wondering how dimebag sustains certain notes in the solo to Fucking Hostile on pantera's live 101 proof album? he seems to grab his whammy bar and just let rip on this one note and sustain it for ages, maybe he uses a pedal

it could also be something they do at the sound board? i know they do that in studios (can somone say the end to cemtary gates)
like def said it depends on your guitar, better wood will sustain more also i belive if you have a string thru body it will sustain better

A well made guitar is the start of have a sustain that will hold. EMG's seem to have longer sustain than most pickups too. Knowing how to shake the note to keep it going is the next importent thing. Using the right amount of feedback is important and finally effects will help some too.
It is a combonation of all these things. Those and make sure your noise surpresser is off.
