Question when restringing

I was watching the Opeth Dvd and i saw on some of the guitars, instead of cutting the extra string by the headstock or just leaving it long, they wind the extra string up in circles ( coils ). I know alot of guitarist do it, i seen clapton do it to. So, How do i wind it in cirlces??

hah, nice avatar bro....reminds me of the good old MetalThrashingMad days

for the winding, just stick the extra bits of string through the hole in the tuning peg, and continue to do this until you've run out, or can't fit any more through in which case you just cut the excess off. if you're not happy, unwind it and re-thread it through again.

lastly good job on opeth and seriously, do cut the excess off because it doesn't take a genius to know you'll spike something.

I didnt think of it as anything special, but i've always done that (up until recently). All you do is tune it with the regular three wounds. When the string is tight, take the excess string and wind it around the machine head, then let it go, it will turn into a spring and "boing!" out. whoop dee doo!
