It was basically a marketing strategy used by Hughes & Kettner ... they traditionally manufacture high-end "boutique" equipment that is pricey, and favored by experienced/professional musicians, but they never really had a product that they could market to the younger crowds who could'nt tell the difference between tube and solid-state amplifiers ( they were also detuning their B.C. Rich Bronze warlocks and hacking away aimlessly at Slipknot songs ). Hence, the "Warp 7", a solid-state amplifier designed for "drop tunings", released during Nu-metal's boon. It's selling points are it's mean looks, intimidating model name ... and that's it. As far as solid-state amplification goes, Randall, Crate, or Tech 21 would trump it in every way imaginable.
My verdict : It's a shitty product.

the tunning of your guitar really has nothing to do with how the head performs

guitar_demon is right : All amplifiers of high wattage will be able to articulate, for the most part, your low A ( Maybe a Fender would'nt, but you're not looking for that ). They say the Warp 7 is designed for the low tuned player, but this is a marketing gimmick. They've just made another solid-state head ( and not a very integral one, either ). Your speakers will have more to do with how well your low end is produced.
It's more important to obtain a great amplifier, moreso than it is to buy a novelty amplifier. I promise you, a Randall Cyclone, a Crate BV, or a Peavey 5150 will outperform this Hughes and Kettner any day of the week.

I do agree there, nothing good can be said for the MG series.

It'll sound muddy. if you want nu-metal lows and it sounding tight, check out the warp-x.
the warp 7 is nice if you want a cheap and loud amp, honestly theyre not too bad at all, especially for the cash

yeh, they stopped making 5150s a while ago... if you want one, i suggest you sit tight for a while because they have jumped to ridiculous prices on ebay and wont go down until the 6505's come out and then start hitting the used market.

I really haven't got a clue what head to get, people recommend this that and the other, other people say some shit about it...I know I have to go out and try them
Maybe I should just go for higher wattage as what we play is pretty hard to distinguish from, and messy..

I tried one and hated it. The eq is useless. No matter what i did it still sounded muddy as fuck and has NO tone.

I played one and thought it was ok.
But really, this person is so indecisive, that this recommendation is well warranted.

get this, my total guitar magazine says that h&k had changed the logo on the warp 7 so that it imitates nu-metal bands and the way that they put black tape over the amp makers logo...

we mods are like the secret service, you know.
anyways, I suggest to try it. it's not bad for the money IMO. but like Dead said, the eq is pretty much useless and it's not 'great' but you're not paying for 'great' either. but I'm sure he can do better in his budget, especially if he get something used.

I have a Warp 7, and my verdict is it's alright. It's inexpensive and loud--that's it. If you want a cheap amp that produces tons of mediocre sound, the Warp 7 is a-ok. (I wouldn't buy it again though)

Duuuhhhhh....???
All right...I know this is going to sound so lame, but I've been playing for 12 years. I'm no Dimebag, but I can hold my own with most guitarists. Only thing is, I have virtually no knowledge on how to record with the equipment I'm using. I have an old beat up, road worn Hughes & Kettner Warp 7 and I'm using a BOSS ME-50 pedal. My band is in the throes of recording, but we can't seem to get that quintisential sound. The fat, tone driven, balls to the wall Pepper Keenan DOWN sound, you know? I'll even settle with Type O Negative's sound (refer to Everything Dies or Wolf Moon). We have a bunch of Shure SM-57s to record with and we're using the Cube-Base program, but we don't know how to judge which speaker would sound best for the sound we're going for. Now, I know that my equipment is lacking, but is there any way to even come close to having that sound for a recording? If so, How? They seem to think that "you can make anything sound good with enough EQ work" and so on and so forth, but I cannot believe this. If ya'll would like to hear what I'm talking about go to our site. www.myspace.com/paramaya. The ones we recorded ourselves are "Ready To Die" and "Requiem Of Heaven". The others were recorded elsewhere. PLEASE, HELP ME OUT!
