Question Need help w/ PUP

Hey guys I'm new to this forum. Hopefully someone in this well-populated forum has something similar to this setup: Epiphone Les Paul Standard, Line 6 Flextone III XL, stock pups. And if I'm lucky, maybe someone has upgraded to EMG 81 bridge pup, cuz that's what I want to do. I just need some input from you guys as to whether this pickup compromises the guitar's ability to play RHCP songs, for ex., while sounding incredible for metal. Metal is my first love, but I also like playing other styles. Thanks.

I guess it will sound kinda sterile when playing cleans if you use an 81.

yea, i heard that emgs arent exactly great for clean tones

well, all i can say is try before you buy, what ever it is, just try it, well actually, i spose you can ebay it if you dont like it, but its prob best to try before you buy.
go to a guitar shop and just try out a guitar with emg actives in and play some rhcp on it.

imo there is nothing cleaner than an emg 60 in neck position running into a roland jc-120... well, except a parker fly running into a jc-120...

EMG's are TOO clean, which makes them lack charactor.. they sound pretty sterile when playing clean parts.

Thanks for the responses. I think I need to stop being cheap and get a decent neck pup as well.
