a new set or upgrade slowly?

this is my kit
Percussion plus
22"
10-12" bass mounted toms
14" floortom
pinstripes on toms
14" snare with a powerstroke 3
stock resos and stock bass batter (want to get a powerstroke3)

14" (i think) hihat
18 or 20" ride

cheapass stock hardware
Pearl p122-tw double kick (very nice)

i wanna get some better cymbals, should i get a stagg cymbal pack (what hardware?)
or should i look to get a new kit? im worried that gradually upgrading will be more expensive. also a kit would come with better hardware, i could get those stands with boom cymbal arms and tom holders
i dont want any more drums, and wouldnt even miss the 10" tom.
so should i look to get a 4 piece set with some nice cymbals? how easy is it to customize a kit ie. can i buy it without a pedal? if so then could i get a kit without cymbals, then i could buy cymbals now and just shells later
thanks
btw. ive been playing for about 5-6 months, and i play nearly every day but havent got lessons yet. just some basic book. and i make up lots of riffs and practice them.

dont look at it in terms of expense or spending too much money, you gotta judge each piece on thier individual merit, no one series of cymbals are the "best" niether a drumset. since i have particular tastes towards gear that i know noone else here shares, i wont get into specific recommendations. the only thing i can say is if you have to pay 1000$ for a drumset you know kicks ass and is what you need, by all means, spare no expense. gear costs an arm and a leg, its a marginal market, it always will, i usually deal in second hand stuff myself, think of all those people who buy nice drumkits and cymbals but never learn and soon give up, they eventually sell off thier barely touched gear at some point, this is my inclination toward not spending too much. most people like to buy brand new stuff, which means you spending alot of dough, no way around it, just roll in to a store, loiter there, try everything out, get an idea of the sound you want, watch out for gimmicks, spent whatever you need to if you feel its right, if you give up the craft, decide to sell everything off, a guy like me is gonna be at your door buying up everything at half price

Get a new kit, stay away from cheap ass brands, you get what you pay for, if you pay fuck all, you get a fuck all kit if you pay for quality you get it, I suggest as I always do get yourself a Pearl Export, and I recomend Zildjian cymbals and get good quality hardware, basically ther more you pay the better it will last etc.

can i buy a new kit with only drums and hardware? if so i could buy my cymbals now, becasue my current drums sound fine.
i wouldnt want to get nice hardware and cymbals only to have to buy more becuase the kit comes with them
like could i get 20", 12" tom, 14 and maybe 16" floortoms and a 14" snare, but no pedal, cymbals or any hardware but tom mounts?
the second hand idea is good but.

erm yeah I think you can buy kits without cymbals, but if you did get extra cymbals then, shit happens, sell them and make some profit, or just have a few extra cymbals.

as for the erm usually when you buy ktis there are begginer 'deal' prices where you get everything for a nice discounted price than if you bought everything seperately so if you have extra stuff left over just sell it off, I have done that many times and it has served me well, I made NZD$200+ on some deals.

use www.craigslist.org , they have a page for perth and other australian cities, i just looked it up to make sure, they dont charge when you post and sell something. also check the second hand market in your area thru that same page. but beware of scammers, if some guy from nigeria or some other far off place wants you to ship that thing across the world upon payment of a personal check, dont do it. just sell to someone who can come to your door with hard currency, dont deal with checks<i almost mailed an entire drumset to the netherlands to a scammer, not knowing about this sort of thing then>
