another good solo is the first half of 'endless nights' by Impelitteri

Try learning some scales before you decide to learn a solo to get you up to speed. Your best bet for beginner soloing is the minor pentatonic scale. Its easy to learn and sounds good. From there you should learn the blame it on god solo by deicide, then move on to some black sabbath solo's like warpigs, paranoid, etc, after that, try some Death songs like misanthrope.

Though this isn't metal, a good beginner solo is Santaria by Sublime.

Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
GnR - Knockin on Heavens Door
Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing
Scales: Major / Minor (Natural, Pentatonic, Melodic, or Harmonic)
Just some ideas. Some of the first solos I played.
Good Luck

Carcass - Incarnate Solvent Abuse 2nd Solo
It's melodic and relatively slow paced.
Pentatonic Scales for beginner rock and blues soloing, Harmonic Minor for classic metal style solos. But of course, knowing a large number of scales doesn't hurt. Get the Guitar Grimoire book of scales, pretty comprehensive.

Though this isn't metal, try the solo from Never say goodbye by Bon jovi. Or the solo from We're not gonna take it by twisted sister. That one is pretty easy.

This might sound crazy but SRV is a great place to begin for solos. He did everything around 3 scales, all he know, and look at what he did with them.
His solos are not hard, musical theory wise, but they will give you the knowledge on how to give even the basic solo some heart and soul. Some parts are fast, but most are slow and center on making the tone come from within out through your fingers. That is how I learned how to solo.

Metallica - Sanitarium
the first solo is real easy, then once you get that down you can work on the others.

the first solo i learned was black sabbaths paranoid.it is a little tricky but youd be surprised if you tried it.it also involves alot of bends ,hammer -ons ,slides just about everything.also some of metallicas slow ( james ) solos are good like master of puppets or fade to black.ac/dc is good to.

Learn the intro solo in "fade to black" by metallica, that's one of the first guitar solos where I learned the whole thing.
