looking for a distortion
I'm looking for a new distortion, one with a kinda clean chunky sound. If you listen to Iced Earth or Symphony X that's generally the kind of sound I'm looking for. I'm currently not looking at a Digitech Metal Master pedal, but if you have any suggestions that would be cool.

yeah, I don't expect to get that exact sound but I just want to head in that direction. I have a Jackson JS30R rhoads guitar and a Hughes and Kettner Warp 7 100 watt amp. I'm probably going to buy a Boss noise suppressor to get rid of the the f*cking hum, but that's all.

Digitech Death metal isn't bad, but in the long run, an all tube amp will do you more good in the line of distortion.

tube amp isn't an option at this point, I'm pretty strapped for cash, that's why I'm looking for a pedal. 100 bucks or less is good.

is it better to invest in a few pedals and hook em up together, or does it really not make too much of a difference? I'm pretty inexperienced in this field (I usually play bass guitar).

Digitech Death Metal, or one of their other overdrive pedals. Not built quite as good as the boss mt-2 (which I own), but it sounds much better, IMO. My buddy has one.

Try Out the Line 6 Uber Metal
The Uber Metal is very versatile. I can get a classic Judas Priest sound to a Suffocation,Disgorge sound. I've left my Metal Zone in retirement ever since I got this pedal. It's real great when you run it thru 4x12's loaded with Celestion 30's Vintage, but also killer thru a 20 amp Crate.

If you already have a bit of gain on your amp, i'd suggest an overdrive pedal of some sort while you cut back a little bit on your amps gain a little bit to adjust for the pedal if neccesary. Boss makes decent OD pedals, the Ibanez tubescreamer is great but only if you already have good tone on your amp and guitar.
If you don't like the tone on your amp much, i don't think most (metal) distortion pedals would float your boat, but their atleast handy to get some hefty gain if your on a budget and your amp is lacking in gain.
What kind of pickups do you have in your guitar? Instead of investing money in pedals, you might want to buy some seymour duncans, dimarzios or EMG's.
Try to find out what kind of pickups the bands use, that'll give you more tone in their dirrection than some cheesy pedal would.

I'm not trying to copy tone, I just want something other than the messy fuzzy shit that I'm getting now.

guitar demon, ive been wanting to get the ns-2 pedal, is it pretty much a NOISE GATE becouse thats pretty much what im looking for, does it cut off the signal like a gate? or does it just reduce the noise?? i need something to cut off the feedback is the ns-2 the way to go?

it cuts it out completly, i had some bad feedback and humming from my overhead fan/light thing. it completly got rid off it, you can set the gate level to how much you want it to cut out (only weak signals or strong ones) and you can set the "decay" which is how long before the gate closes again so it would accidently kill your reverb or something

Well McCalister999, I would experiment alot with different pedals.
First off put a bbe sonic maximizer in your amps effects loop. That makes anything sound better. If your looking for clean distortion I would try maybe the UBER Metal pedal by line 6 or I would try the MXR DOUBLE Shot pedal.
