Wiring a high-pass tone control?

Hi! I've read through these forums and found alot of useful info before, but now I have a question. Does anyone know how I would wire my tone control so that it rolls off the low end, rather than the high end when i turn it down?

I think I've covered pretty much every possibility with the aligator clips to no avail. Any help or advice would be appreciated...now if you'll excuse me, i'm going back to google to do some more searching. thanks for any comments or help!

Get a left handed potentiometer ( i think theres left handed ones, ones that are the opposite of right handed ones )
So if these exist, get one and thats all you need!

yea cc thinks you mean you want the knob to do the same thing but revers,
i think you meen instead of killing the high and keeping the low you want to kill the low and keep the high?

yeah, GD, thats what i mean. I think i'd have alot more use for tone control like that.

As far as what CC was talking about, theres no such thing as a left handed pot. if i wanted the direction i have to turn it to be reversed, i would just switch whats wired to the left and right prongs.

To quote a book I have-

"Pots for right handed guitars are wired so that volume, or flow, increases as the knob is turned in a clockwise direction. Note that normal audio taper pots are ade so that the taper functions correctly only in one direction. When the pot turns up volume in a clockwise turning of a knob, it's correct. If you want an audio taper pot to work in the reverse direction you need a reverse taper pot. Remember that when you look at the bottom of pots when doing repair work, you will then want the turning action to turn in a counter-clockwise direction; this is done so that when the pot is incerted it will turn on in a clockwise direction."

thats what I was thinking, guess you werent thinking that.

without a tone knob, the signal is like having a regular tone knob at 10. you want that sound to be at 1 and have the low end come in when you turn it up?

if my understanding is correct, then I still think a reversed tone pot would do the job.

yeah i guess your right about the taper. mine are linear so i don't have the smooth transition, and it doesn't matter. And what i want is the opposite of a typical tone knob. When it is on 10, its like nothing is happening to the signal, on one it rolls your high end off the signal leaving you with mudd. And so what you said is want...nothing to happen at 10, and at 1, the bass to be rolled off the signal leaving me with lots of twang.

This should work. If you want to cut more bass, then decrease the value of the capacitor. Bigger cap to cut less bass. The capacitor is notated in picoFarads.

Here is a tutorial on filtering:
http://www.ibiblio.org/obp/electric...ts/AC/AC_8.html

If it works in the opposite direction from what you wanted, then connect the center tap of the pot to the output side instead of the pickup side.
