Haven't bought them yet, bu I'm going to buy tickets to a show coming up; Converge and Mastadon! yar?
They cost 15 dollars and I don't know exactly where the show is, and I'm very sketchy as to when it is. I was told saturday, but people keep lying to me. Not intentionally.

You have a great time there. All of my relatives from my mothers side
live in Tampere. I visit there about once in a month. Are you going to

hah i fucking wish!!! i got them here: http://www.spiderpharm.com/ if you click online catalog, they sell various (but very limited live species of spiders, scorpions, and possibliy centipedes or other insects. they mostly sell extracted venom from spiders/scorps/pedes, and some preserved specimens. pretty cheap prices too..one place i could order these jumpers from sells them for 12, i paid 4.
you should be able to find all kinds of stuff over there. the prices should be less than they are here as well. if you ever feel like looking into whats over there, go here: http://www.thebts.co.uk/ the british tarantula society is the largest/most respected group in the world as far as tarantulas go. you should be able to find people there from all over europe (even a lot of people in the usa are members) i'm sure there are other european sites, i just don't really know them. actually: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/the.tarantula.store/ that has a forum and is mostly european in membership. other than that i would say go here: http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/ i mostly use this site, and it has a section for europeans(but you have to subscribe to that thread (its free hah))
you ever pick up that regalis?

Glass goblet had me intrigued? Is it sculpted? Mouth blown? Any interesting details or just you liked it?

its really not very nice, although i did find it interesting enough. it was only 2 dollars. it IS a goblet, by definition, but i suppose the fancier looking kind are more often called by the fancier name.

That is some pretty intense close up photos. I'm surprised a camera was able to capture that kind of quality THAT close up

roflmao I bet you say that to all the girls! That brought tears to my eyes.
I've made usable ceramic goblets before as gifts. Some had dragons, knights, or castles for the stem parts. I don't know if I could even find the greenware anywhere anymore. Bet you'd like to have a custom one painted by moi. heh

That reminds me of the bar down the street from my parents. (the bar that these people have in their basement that we always go to on fridays) They bought everybody on the street "personalized" wine glasses or mugs with their name on it and "The Blue Martini" written on it. (thats teh name of the bar) So everytime they go there they can drink out of their specialized glass. Needless to say i'm pissed because i didn't get one haha. I want to get my own and bring it there. I'm thinking like a hefty fucking sized mug. Like a fosters beer sized mug.

Shes damn fast, but i can clean and take care of the tank without any worries. 2 years old, in span shes as large as my hand, just molted for about the fifth time so she'll grow just a little bit larger, eats locusts, cockroaches and pinkies. the camera is back home but i'll have some cellphone shots up this monday.
resume; large, entirely decorated tank, big ass spider, large heating-pad and he threw in an extra tank just because he had one left, for only 50 euro's (40 bucks damnit!)

hah yea my parents wouldn't have loved having all these critters in their house. i guess my mom said the spiders aren't so bad, its snakes she doesn't like.
i'm guess you are talking 20cm x 20cm x 40cm? that is a good size for a spider or scorpion. if you are talking inches, that would be big for just one, so i'd
say a snake, or communal scorpion set up. some of the scorpions you can keep together, like the genus Centruroides also called bark scorpions.
even if the tank is 20cmx20cmx40cm, you could still keep a few of them together since they are fairly small. scorps are a bit more active than tarantulas too. one thing to take note of are the pinchers. if they are big and fat, the scorpion will most likely just crush its prey and eat it..if they have slender pinchers, they'll be much more likely to sting their prey. its pretty cool to watch them sting..so its my preference to have ones that will.
i have a baby emperor scorp, Pandinus imperator, and it will grow to be pretty big..about 20cm long, but i've never seen it sting anything.
another cool thing about scorps is that they glow under uv light. it will fade out if you do it a lot i've heard...i just hit them with my uv flashlight every now and then when i feel like seeing a glowing green scorpion, or for taking pictures. i've heard its not good for them to do it a lot either, but i've never read that in a published science journal..just from people on forums.
centipedes are pretty badass too, but they are a little more difficult to keep..the young ones have a high death rate if not kept in the right conditions. i've had 3 small pedes and they all died. the first two i was keeping on moist substrate and they wound up with mites..one died first, then the other died when i tried letting it dry out to kill the mites. the other one just refused to eat, had water available to it, and i moistened the substrate from time to time, but it just didn't eat and i came home one day to see it on its back. even the larger one i had died from it being in too dry conditions i think. so after four and feeling like an asshole, i gave up on keeping them. still very cool to watch..they are pretty fast and can take down very large prey. they can take down adult tarantulas, and i've even seen a video of the largest species catching a bat in mid flight! http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...878609430213933
theres all kinds of other things...non tarantula spiders, tailless whip scorpions are pretty cool and i've thought about keeping them...vinegaroons, other reptiles or amphibians... but keeping scorps is pretty much the same as tarantulas. so it wouldn't be like learning a whole new set of things you have to do to care for them.

they aren't too bad...the worst would be the pain of the actual sting. a fatal sting is only a real issue for small children, old people, and someone with a weak immune system...it would be really unpleasant though. for a black scorpion, the emperor scorpion, Pandinus imperator, is the most popular one and is big and black. http://www.ub.ntnu.no/scorpion-files/p_imperator.htm
Heterometrus spinifer is another popular one http://perso.orange.fr/eycb/scorpions/Gasie.htm
neither of them have significant venom to worry about. they'd most likely just pinch you, which i imagine would still hurt..but you'd be fine. i've never been pinched or stung by a scorp..i hope to keep it that way haha. some people handle theirs..particularly the emperor scorp..but i just leave mine in its home.
oh yea..not sure about H. spinifer, but P. imperator can be kept communally. the store that i bought mine at has at about 15 of them all living in one tank. they are cheap too! just make sure there are plenty of hides so they can spread out a little..and make sure to feed them plenty.

she'll love it..though you won't get to see her as much. it stresses them out if they don't feel like they have a dark and secure hiding place. she could probably make a tube web attached to the glass and one of those pieces of wood in there though, and she'd most likely cover the web in the substrate, but i'd just about guarantee she'd move into one of those tubes of cork bark. you could even just find something flat and lean it against one of the sides of the tank, they'll take to that usually too. with it being against the glass, you'll still be able to look in on her. just cover the glass with something when you aren't looking, or else she'll web up the glass pretty soon and you won't be able to see. looks good though. i'm sure you'll enjoy having her around.

on topic...yesterday, i bought 35 crickets of various sizes, 2 pinky mice, and small fuzzy mouse. and later today i'll be making out the check for my first payment towards my new guitar.
doc - is the basking spot for the plant or the spider? as long as your house stays in average room temp ranges, you shouldn't need any heating or lighting. the plant needs some light though, but spiders hate light. i don't really know much about the plants in terrariums, but i know there are certain types, like bromelaids (spelling), that don't require much light to survive and so make ideal plants for a more natural looking set up. i just use fake plants heh.
and to you whiners, you think i should start a whole new thread? was thinking about it, but wasn't sure if it should be just spiders, or arachnids, or what? theres already this http://metaltabs.com/forum/showthre...&highlight=pets or i could just make it "the official mt pet thread" what do you all think? besides...what do you guys have against learning new things. what if one day you are on jeopardy and the category is theraphosids? i guess it could easier go in the rtt thread than here..

What? Did you think the two negatives canceled each other out? With wind chill it can feel like it's -30- -40C.
The central west gets a lot colder weather than us...but they don't get the wind like we do next to the ocean. Our weather is kinda fucked..it can be +6C and raining one day, the next could be cold as fuck. It's quite mixed up. It's definitely not like that everyday in the winter, usually only in January and February in my province. The brutal cold days are obviously seemingly to get less and less.

Yeah this guy at work was talking about the weather of canada. Apparently this guy knows alot of shit haha. He was explaining the jet stream coming from the Gulf of mexico coming up the east coast going through canada then east through Britian. (Hence why they aren't more of an Icicle than they are now.)
He was also talking about the mid section of canada and the newfoundland areas how fucking coldi t gets haha. Insanely cold.

Yes, it's nuts in the North...I think Canada is rated the 2nd coldest country in the World...to Russia I think? Maybe they left Antarctica out of it? lol.
We have this arctic just hanging out while the polar bears are stuggling to find ice to live on.

nope. i checked just now. its "what will be has been". i orderded it because i have a song of theirs on my computer, its from that album, and i am familiar with only that song. their other ones, on myspace, have NEVER worked at my house, or on the schools connection. pretty fucking irritating, but im sure i'll like this cd. and if "caught in the unlight" really is better, i will buy that one too!

You'll need some material for a handle! Go for a nice bound handle

Sure will. I've even drawn up a cool design, and dubbed it "The Swan" (it really does look like a swan!).
No way would I be able to make you an axe...that requires experience and a forge - both of which I don't have. I could direct you to some makers though:
- Gransfors Bruks - Awesome makers of quality camp/utility axes. Check out their "Ancient Collection" if you want something historical (quite pricey as axes go, though). Short of getting a reputable smith to make you one, this is the highest quality option available.
- Paul Chen/Hanwei - Chinese makers of reasonable quality weaponry. Their axes can be a bit "iffy", but if you're not actually going to be using your axe for heavy chopping, these are quite a bit cheaper compared to the Gransfors Ancient Collection.
