Boss DS1 vs Digitech metal master

I have a Boss DS1 and some guy wants to trade his digitech metal master for my pedal. Is it a fair trade? should i keep the boss ds1?
(please stick to the thread and don't tell me that pedal tone sucks because I allready know that )

You should kick him in the head. That digitech pedal doesn't even have a fucking gain knob.
Also, notice that digitech pedals are build like crap, unlike boss pedals that could survive nuclear war.

Offcoarse a ds-1 pedal doesn't have enough gain.. but you get the point

I have a Boss DS-1 and I'm satisfied with it. I'd keep the DS-1.

hahah

ive owned both of these pedals

they are actually both pretty good

in this trade, in terms of value its a good deal but
you may prefer the Ds 1 it is much more mid rangy, when i had it i had my mids scooped completely and it still gave a really middy distortion

now the metal master just does the opposite, youll need to crank you mids on your amp

as for postitives and negatives for the pedals

I found that the Ds 1 had a kind of sratchy lead tone while the Metal master had a nicer smooth lead tone

but the Ds 1 did reall good at high volumes while the master didnt do quite as well.

also the metal master has a more modern gain sound

anyways my tone cents (pun) is take the metal master and if you dont like it you could always sell it and get a cheap Ds 1 or Ds 2 off of ebay

ah this thread reminds me of the good old pedal days

personally i don't like the metal master at all.. imo, useless in a serious rig.

the ds-1 however, as a stand alone unit, i'm not a huge fan, but it does have a purpose as a nice boost pedal if you have a nice tube amp that lacks in gain.

my buddy uses a ds-1 to boost his dsl50 head, not because it lacks in gain, but with the pedal over his lead channel, it's really tighter and smoother for his riffing and leads. you'll have to compensate one unit's gain for the other, but the end results are desireable.

so that's my opinion over the sound.

however... the metal master is worth more, it may be possible for you to do the trade, sale the metal master, buy another ds-1, and then make a couple bucks.

but then again i'm not to big on the resale of most distortion pedals. and is probably more trouble than it's worth.

it's like comparing apples to oranges. DS-1 is more of a standard rock distortion pedal whereas the digitech metal master is (supposedly) a metal pedal. but since you've made your choice, this is a pointless post.......

I've just heard the ds1 through a koch powertone II . I was stunned . On the ultragain channel the tube amp had balls but when i pushed the little orange box it had all the balls in the world. Guess i did the right thing
