Garageband (mac program) versus real distortion.

Ok, I am in a little dilemna. I'm going to be doing a jam with my friend tommorow and recording it, using Garageband on his mac. Now, he said I can just bring my gutiar and select distortion by using Garageband. Now, my question is, if anyone has used this program, is the distortion good enough for anything metally? I don't really want to find out it only offers classic rock twang when I get there tommorow. Right now, I am using a AVT50 and can get all the tone I want out of it. Thanks for the advice, and sorry if this is in the wrong forum somehow...
