Reign in Blood or Darkness Descends
I just bought Dark Angel- Darkness Descends off of eBay last week, and after hearing that it was far superior to reing in blood by several people, I was a bit dissapointed. The production is bad and the singer does these awful falsetto screams in many of the songs, among other things. I am curious as to find out why everyone loves Darkness Descends so much.

What freaks told you it was superior to Reign in Blood? Darkness Descends is decent and Merciless Death is one of my favorite songs, but it's not even fucking close to Reign in Blood...

DD is good, RiB is excellent, Divine intervention pisses on both of them.

Darkness Descends is a bit overrated, but I think the overall feeling for the album is more consistant. There isn't a riff as memorable as Raining Blood's first, but I think I can get into it better.
It's faster, but it also seems a bit more structured in the solo department. Plus, with all due respect to Reign in Blood, Black Prophecies and The Burning of Sodom are superior to just about anything on Reign in Blood.
However, the production is pretty weak. The drums are way, way too loud, and the guitars are a bit undermixed. Their vocalist isn't exactly the best, but his delivery style is alot like Araya's.

Lame-O me thought the song Darkness Descends was a slayer song .. Because I downloaded it and it was labled as Artist: Slayer and it didnt have a song title. I made a thread about it a while ago..
But RiB is definitely a great album. Just, fuck listen to it too much as all of its greatness wears off pretty fast. I haven't heard all of the album Darkness Descends but I think I'd like it more than RiB purely in the fact that I haven't over-listened it.

I've never even heard of Dark Angel, and even if I did, I'd still say Reign in Blood is superior.

Let's compare a band no-one cares about to a band everyone cares about! In a versus topic, no less!
*deep breath*
FUCKWEASEL!
P.S. Slayer.

Yeah, even Death Angel is better than Dark Angel. But neither one of 'em can touch Morbid Angel. I think Reign In Blood versus Morbid Angel's Blessed are the Sick would be more fair...

Reign in Blood is THE thrash album OF ALL FUCKING TIME, it is THE most intense 30 minutes of your life there is not a shit song, not a shit minute, not even one crap riff in the ENTIRE FUCKING ALBUM, no band has EVER reproduced an album that defines a Genre and influenced such a wide range of music, Black sabbath come close, but they took several albums, Slayer did it (yes I know there were albums before RiB but RiB is leauges ahead of them IMO) in one album.
in case you didn't notice by that speech, Reign in blood was the First slayer album I heard and I have to say it changed my fucking life, from the second you hit play and Angel of Death kicks in to the second that Raining blood finishes it is full on, no compromise just pure intense thrash at its most pure and perfect form.
I swear if it wasn't for THAT album I wouldn't be what I am today (aLL FucKeD iN TeH HeAd)
and I have never heard the other band, they cannot compete with a album that EVERY true metal head knows at least 100% of the words to (even if they are not the right one )

Wow, that's a big claim. I'll have to check them out.
Back to the Reign in Blood thing. I was at a show years ago (Overkill or Testament I think) and between bands they played Reign in Blood. There was a mosh pit just for the album and you could hear everyone singing the words over the top of it. This went on for the ENTIRE album. It was fucking amazing.

it goes something like this:
AC looked up to MA, but surpassed them in every level of brutality, intensity, speed....and tragically, short-lived

If we are going to start naming albums that weren't even brought up, Dark Angel's third album shits all over anything Slayer has ever done, and Suffocation's Breeding the Spawn shits all over that. Plus, Rush's Permanent Waves was fucking awesome, although Fly By Night was probably better.
As far as this topic, Darkness Descends wasn't as good as Reign in Blood, although I might feel differently if I'd heard Darkness Descends first and there was as much hype surrounding it as Reign. Darkness Descends was Dark Angel's first good album (second album overall), but nothing more than a footnote in the history of thrash. If you really want to hear Dark Angel, grab their third and fourth albums. The live album was yummy, too.

Blessed are the Sick laughs at Slayer's entire catalogue, or at least I do at the comparison. Blessed are the Sick is better than Reign in Blood in most categories, although if the argument were which was more important to history of metal, I'd probably say Reign in Blood.
By the way, I don't know why random people keep bringing up Death Angel. It's almost like there is a limit to the amount of bands with the word "Angel" in their monikers allowed in all of your memories.

I bought Darkness Descends first and there was no hype surrounding Reign in my personal teenage universe at the time other than my own anticipation. Reign in Blood was just plain better right off the bat (although the Jewish metalhead girl across the street from me didn't seem to like the lyrics to Angel of Death for some odd reason).

True. In the tabs section there is a Death Angel album in the Dark Angel page.

Haha, damn I love Rush.
I don't care much for both bands, but actually I prefer Slayer. I don't believe I've heard any Death Angel and I don't plan to. The only thing that keeps me from loving Slayer as much as you guys is Tom's vocals and the lack of bass. Plus thrash or speed metal bores me after a while.
