Im not trying to find classic rock or hair metal, but Im looking for older metal bands, at least ones that originated then (Like Slayer, Bathory etc...)

Well, odds are, if the're a really good band, they had an album in the 80's. Some may disagree, but that's just my opinion.

Damn, that was quick. Start sending condoms to 3rd world nations instead of food. Maybe you could put food in the condoms if you're feeling generous.
Bands
Sanctuary and Fates Warning if you like the high vocal registers without the big hair tinge. If you like black metal or progressive, you will probably like them.
Forced Entry if you like thrash with killer lead guitar...

Sure they were. I had friends with Pantera albums back then. That was when it was "Diamond" Darrell and before Phil shaved his head.
I'll add Coroner to the list...

No, I was in the California bay area at the time. I guess we probably were ahead of our time because of all the famous local thrash/speed bands and clubs.

Yeah, Armored Saint rules. Savatage's guitarist Chris Oliva (RIP) also rules...
Might as well mention the Leatherwolf and Odin EP's while I'm at it. They are pretty badass. I saw Leatherwolf live with their "Three Axe Attack" (Three guitarists playing solos simultaneously) and those guys fucking rip.

You guys are forgetting Metallica. It's like it's trendy to not like Metallica on this board. Maybe that's "too" obvious. Whatever, Metallica was better than 90% of those bands you people named.

Who is this 'Metallica' you speak of? I know not who you mean? Hahahaha!
I think this chap was after more obscure metal bands that he could go and track down.
Whether they're better than 90% of the bands people named is subjective and some of those bands influenced Metallica!
