Boosting My Amp

I tried doing a search but my school filtered it .

I have a crate 212 SS amp (saving for a nice tube one soon), and a Boss GT6 multi-FX.
Currently, I run the GT6 in front of the crate through its clean channel and use the GT6's modelling to pull all my distortion. I was thinking about experimenting. Is it possible to run it into the rhythm channel and use the GT6 as a booster and not as a one-trick distortion pedal? And if i could, what would i do (turn off preamp and only use OD/Dist) etc.
Just wanted to ask the advice of some people more experienced with it than me before i get home, run the '6 on full distortion and blast out my ears with a shitload of feedback.

You should be able to boost it with your gt6, but you shouldn't use full distortion when you do. Most of your OD should come from the amp. The concept of "boosting" is just what it says, boosting your amps front end. What you should do is put your amp at about 1/2 to 3/4 of the gain you normally use and use a mild overdrive on your pedal. What this should do is beef up your gain, and since you turned it down a bit on the amp, it won't get mushy and full of feedback.

you should be able to use whatever individual effect you want. i woudl try to dial in a sound you like with the amps drive and then adjust it with eq and whatever preamp options you have. to get a 'boost' all you'd have to do is raise the vol and drop the gain of the drive.
