Jackson SLSMG Soloist

Hai.

Sorry if this has been asked before, i only went through 19 of the 30 something threads

On to the question... Is the SLSMG any good? I have read the harmony-central reviews and they are all pretty good, but have any of you guys tried it? Comment please, thanks.

It is a pretty nice guitar. Neck-thru, and the ebony fretboard felt nice, but my question is if they're gonna do that, why didn't they just put better pickups in them. The HZ-H4 that it has (I think) isn't one of the best pickups.

What pickups do you suggest for the SLSMG? I plan on playing Metallica's Orion kind of metal, slow, melodic and rather heavy

The volume knob thing is just about the same with all standard Jacksons.

Don't you just get used to play with the knob that high or is it uncomfortable while fast picking on e ?

EDIT: It has come to my attention that the Jackson RR5 is nearly the same price, but i find it more... cool Also the reviews are pretty much the same.
So, since i have absolutly no experience with Jackson guitars it would be great if you guys could post your experience with those two guitars

Neck-thru, ebony, I'd say yeah.

Also, any Jackson that is a bolt-on is probably not worthwhile.

The only Jackson I've ever owned [and still own] is a Japanese-made JSX-94 concept. It's one of those cheap series that makes like 600 and then discontinues, but it's not a bad guitar. I've played on it for 11 years, however, it needs new pickups and fret-wire cause it sounds like shit now.

I have an slsmg in the post, not a crappy off the shelf version either, it has an amazing flamed maple, trans black laminate top with white binding, i havent been able to find another of these anywhere, i saw it and baught it straight away, il have to get a review up when it gets here... ive heard thats its best to replace the pickups with an emg 81-85 set, but apart from that it should be cool, might also have to replace the humbucker mounts, i really hope it doesnt come with the cheap plastic ones.

Being a jackson i think it should fit the bill, i play fairly heavy metal, nothing too excessive, at the moment im just using a crappy modded jackson js30 dinky with replacement black genuine floyd rose, and 1 emg 81, you can hear the difference between the stock pickup and the 81, more punch but more noise aswell, if you invest in a set of emgs you might want to throw a noise gate in there aswell, either that, or get the wiring done professionally, i dabbled in the art of soldering on this guitar, bit of a mess.

but slsmg + emg 81-85 should kick ass, il reply soon hopefully with the results.

Okay, the beauty arrived tuesday morning, opened the hardcase and my jaw dropped, this thing is pure perfection, it just feels likfe quality and has a glass like finish to it :-) *slightly chuffed* not had a chance to play it on a stack yet, but it doesnt sound too bad through the line6 guitarport, just waiting on my dual recto to be delivered and il give it a good thrash, il give it a while before i do any modding, but just to confirm it came with the plastic humbucker mounts which is a let down :-s i changed the stock strings out for 0.53-0.11s which makes it abit better for lower tuning, sticking with drop-c at the moment, all i can see that needs changing for the time being is (humbucker mounts, maybe pickups at some stage, will stay passive though.)
