tuning
sum1 told me this:
Drop B is (low to high) B F# B E G# C#....and Drop A is (low to high) A E A D F# B.
is that right?
and if it is, how do i get my strings #?
because my tuner's led looks like this (like pretty much any other tuner):
\ | /
if i get it in the middle its just right, but if i was to make my string #, how would i do that? how far to the right shall i turn it? :S
i hope you understand my problem, im not very good at explaining it because im not too sure of the correct terms.
ask me more questions if you dont understand what im on about
cheers

Good question. On a similar note, how do you tune your guitar to Drop C? I know which notes I need to tune it to, just how do I go about it?
Eg. How do I get from E to C?

How would someone be able to tune to something with their ears if they can't even get to it with a tuner?

Tuning to standard E w/ ur ears is easy, but when you're doing like drop C, it's harder.

Drop C? Isn't it one step down for everything except the 6th string which is 2 steps down. It's like drop D but one step lower for everything.

On drop C,just drop the 6th string E to D by tuning it an octave lower to the 4th string, then drop the 5th string A to G and tune it an octave lower to the 3rd string, now, tune the 4th string to the 5th string 5th fret to get a C,do the same with the 3rd srting(tune it 5th fret)then tune the 2nd and 1st how you normally tune it.Now you should have D,G,C,F,A,D as open strings and just drop the 6th string to match with the 4th string C an octave lower and voila! you got yourself a drop C.

I'd recommend a digital chromatic tuner - it's easier to tune to specific notes using a digital tuner than an anlogue one.

download a tuner off the net. there are lots of free ones at harmony-central.com
click on software, click on windows, tuners are in there somewhere
connect a cable between your guitar out and line in on your sound card.
type sndvol32 in RUN or click the speaker down by the clock.
go to the options menu then properties. select RECORDING and click ok
make sure the LINE IN box is checked now you can use your computer digital guitar tuner

Yes. It'll tell you the exact note that you are tuning to, including if it is sharp.

If you have a tuner with a button that says Flat, then press that button. It should appear a b sign somewhere on the display. Then press then button until you have five of those (bbbbb) then just tune your guitar like normal.

drop B:
tune the E string to an octave below the second fret of the A string
now, tune A to the 7th fret of the now low B string.
then hit the fifth fret of the now F# string, and tune that as the rest of the other strings (except not forgetting the "G" string rule)

QUESTION
What strings should I use for tuning in Bb (Morbid Angel) on a 6-string? Im using 12's now, but I would like thicker. Does anyone know what would be best for that tuning?

Is there a reference site somewhere that gives a list of tensions and string thickness?
TO THE GOOGLE MACHINE! If I find a site , I will post it here

I use 13's for B standard and drop A and they feel fine.

Well I thought that you were going to play with B tuning. But that's right, it should only be one b if you are going to play in Eb.
