Opeth
"OPETH will be entering Fashination street studios on March 15 to record their 8th yet-untitled opus. The band are currently in rehearsal mode, which is a rare occasion having recorded the last 4 records without rehearsing. The recording will be overseen by the uprising recording mogul Jens Bogren. As of today, no names for production duties have surfaced and it looks like the next record will be a band-produced effort. Nothing has been decided regarding who's taking care of the mix either so we'll have to keep you wondering.
"OPETH and their management have spent the last month meeting the five top label candidates for the next OPETH recording contract. The names are still secret but a decision will be made very soon and obviously announced here earlier than anywhere else.
I wonder what label they are going to end up picking.

Opeth isn't going to change their genre of music for a label. All the songs are basically done being written and they are going in the studio soon. They didn't pick a label yet. So in my mind, I see it as they wrote the album before they picked a label to show the labels they are going to write what they want. I dont know if you just gave Relapse and Metalblade as random examples, but I can't see Opeth going to either one.

Is that just from what you heard on Lamentations, or is it actually a big possibility? Granted, Mikael would do some beastly black metal screams, and they would be able to get the sound, I'd just rather they did another death album.
And the label does matter (regarding to first post) - let's hope they don't get another controlling one like MFN, who made what could have been a ridiculously amazing dvd into a mildly amazing dvd. |

I disagree. I think Deliverance was great, but pretty repeatative.
The new stuff will probably be good. Opeth are an amazing band, and I have no reason to expect anything less than greatness from them.

I really don't think there is a single thing wrong with Deliverance. For what they were aiming for, they achieved it and it was damn-near perfect. And as for MAYH, the only weakness I could point out for it would be Mike's vocals (he was ill during recording), yet I actually prefer his clean singing on Credence to many others off of Damnation.
Morningrise is definitely my favourite, but it isn't much like Deliverance or MAYH. A good question would be Still Life, BWP or MAYH (of which I would choose Still Life, but it's damn near close with all 3).

Blackwater Park, and I'm sure almost any Opeth fan will tell you the same thing. I don't like Still Life that much, although The Moor is definately one of my favorite songs by them.

Haha that'd be funny, they're all trying to record and you've got ur face like smashed against the glass watching them. I hate it when like a new CD comes out and then I download like most of the songs on it cuz you can't wait till it comes out, and then by the time the CD comes out, you've already heard most of the shit. I want all their other CD's but none of the stores around my place sell 'em, so I'm gonna have to order them off the net or something. Hopefully Opeth will surprise me with a masterpiece once the new CD comes out.

But I shouldn't continue down that path as my opinions on Mike in bloodbath are well known.
I hear that their new album is going to be more black metal orientated, this is something I can only see as a bad thing.

Realy, anything they made before BwP was more "black" than "death". The only real deathmetal they did was on deliverance.
I don't realy think its bad, since their best stuff is from their black era.

This band is over rated, why are there thirty billion posts about them? They're just another death metal band with intermingled, melodic segments. I mean it was cool for a while but then it got really borring. The thing that ruined it for me was seeing them live. I went into the show loving the band and came out hating them. It was so borring that I actually left what was supposedly a pit and slept in the corner of the place while my friends argued whether to leave or not. I mean this band isn't the worst ever, but it's really not that great. So many better bands.

you'll notice most of us don't go around bashing other bands in their threads, in my case if there is a band thread i don't know, i definitely won't post in it. if i don't like the band, unless its nu-metal, chances are i also won't (with the possible exception of dillinger escape plan). so instead of coming on here, as was stated INTO A RECORDING THREAD with all guns blazing saying how much you hate a band, you could try shutting the fuck up, and since 99% of us worship opeth, try going to www.ihateopeth.com to state your opinion. |
