Godspeed You Black Emperor - "East Hastings"
Anything that can sum up the entire 28 Days Later movie (and help build the atmosphere in the beginning) is definately eerie.

I did not like that movie...
Is that the first song on F#A#? I love the intro, builds the atmosphere beautifully.

Mayhem - Life Eternal
This song takes the cake,Varg's bass line and Euronymous's riff create the gloomiest atmosphere I've ever heard, plus its like the murderer and the victim which adds to it.
oh and.....

Darkthrone - Transylvanian Hunger

Strid - Strid 7"
Even the first impression of this ep's music makes the audition very gloomy. Burzum era music, with much more laconic and somewhat more dimmy atmosphere. Though the vocals aren't just some inhuman/feral screams as Varg's, they are some whispering (but not clean) vocals, and that's why makes this music very eerie (as addition to the riffs).
Darkspace - Dark Space I
Paysage d'Hiver (all)
Their music isn't really ghastly or eerie while just listening to them at first time, but the hypnotic effect of their music causes some very deep effect to you and it makes the audition quite eerie (maybe in the end, because trance effect what this 'hypnotism' does to you probably wont notice it). Compare this into the effect what one can easily get from some very deep ambient/synth music (where this is an axiom), like:
Raison d'ętre (most records)
Kerovnian (all)
Lustmord (old, I haven't heard their newer-era)

Agreed.
I Whisper In The Ear Of The Dead by Nile is very eerie in the middle and end parts.

'Eerie' is probably best described as an atmosphere that creates an unsettling feeling of fear.

Not many people agree that 28 Days Later was good. I liked it...
Efrim (from GYBE and A Silver Mount Zion, and such) knows how to build suspense within a song.

my roomate obtained somewhere on the internet the cannibal holocaust soundtrack, plays it often from his room, has that hippy song in the beginning and goes into a violin part/classical with these wierd anologue keyboard effects, by itself it really isnt eerie, but the fact that i seen the movie makes its really uncomfortable to listen to it
i hate that movie by the way,and its counterpart cannibal pherox, someone gave my roomate thier horror collection, old italian gore movies, not really my thing, its funny that the blair witch project is a direct rip-off on that holocaust movie
sorry its not a real metal song, but its totally evil like one should be

I just ran across an old album my sister loved to listen to, Enigma's MCMXC AD. It's not metal at all, it's creppy erotic techno dance music. I remember I was dozing off when she came home and popped it into her cd player and began blasting it. I remember it had creepy monk chants and weird-ass synth lines. It freaked the shit of me, and I just got over that Night of the Living Dead remake.

i think most of Emperor's "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" is pretty eerie.
not your most 'classic' version of eerie, but the songs remind me of a raging storm and the low-quality recording makes it just so black metal. the opening song is 'classic' eerie though. to me eerie isnt just a spooky tune, it has to create a spooky atmosphere that shuts down the outside world. that album takes the cake

Would it work in the outback? I imagine that it wouldn't, but it's got to be worth a try of you like that sort of thing.

Dark Funeral, The Dawn No More Rises. The intro is badass....and the same goes for Blood Frozen--Slow, and creepy.
It's kinda difficult for something to really 'creep' me out. Whenever I usually hear something that would be described as eerie, I just get joyous or something...

Man, I get real sweaty after I wack my dong. Yeah, cause I headbang while I do, and I can't really "Jump" (haha ) like VanHalen in a dorm room, so I just walk back and forth....haha a couple days ago I was jumping up and down on my bed, with my pants down and my roommate came in when I wasn't looking, hahaha.

Opeth-Black Water Park. I guess not as "eerie as fuck" as like Burzum or Emperor, but if you listen to that quiet acoustic part in the middle of the song, you really feel like you're in that dark, misty place like the art on the cover.

You think Phobophile is eerie? Yes, the piano intro is sad and mournful. But eerie? Nope.

one i forgot:
german brutal-masters RESURRECTED. on their album "butchered in excrement," the intro is a mighty freaky horror track, called "the beginning of terror." and then once you've eeried yourself, that sets up a top atmosphere for the rest of the album, which is:
think deicide, keep all the good parts, remove the bad, increase the heaviness, and triple the brutality.

Sorry to dig this back up but lately my friend Joe has asked me what is the creepiest songs I know. Tristania and Sins Of Thy Beloved is all I can think of but I think it's not what he's looking for. He loves stuff like Evergrey because of the keyboards and the atmosphere of the music, because when we go ghost hunting it sets the mood and puts us in a certain mindframe. I want something with a classical sound with piano and stuff of that nature, stuff that sounds haunting and/or creepy as hell. If you can help us out that would be great.

Neurosis - Shelter
Neurosis - Locust Star
Neurosis - Stones from the Sky
Pretty much all Neurosis songs, amazing band. They take awhile to get into though.

I'm going to have to say
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (that droning thick eerie guitar is so awesome)
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name (the subject matter and music just make it eerie and sorrowfilled)
Ancient Rites - Dim Carcosa
Megadeth - Good Mourning/Black Friday
Megadeth - Dawn Patrol (reminds me of a couple of grunts in Vietnam doing dawn patrol and it is foggy and shit)
Megadeth - Looking Down the Cross (reminds me of walking down a street late at night and it is dead quiet...Some lurking evil is waiting to kill you)
I know this one isn't metal but the Overture of Phantom of the Opera
