Yes, the FX loop is AFTER the preamp.. so you would just be using your heads poweramp.

if i get what bls is saying its doesnt totally pass it, but it would read the signal as

head pre->the preamp you plug in->poweramp so the one you plug in kinda cancels out the normals head preamp, making the one you plug in where the sound is from (right?)

I plug my preamp into my fx loop and its great. I asked Tommy Folkesson (swedish amp modder) about it and he said that it would be just like using Preamp -> Poweramp.

I'de say, no. its damn expensive for a used preamp. I got my engl 620 for like 150 bucks, sold it for the same price and the guy playing it now was friggin happy.

ofcourse the 530 is far more advanced and shit... but I'de prolly go all out for a 570 or 580 if you're into the midi shizzle. the 570 will do fine though, it reminded me of my savage with a bunch more options. the 530 is more like the powerball I guess. I've only played it for a short while with an engl poweramp.

Anyways, Engl prices are allways up, even here and even in germany, its no different over there. it's quality stuff, you pay for that. it's not even as hyped as mesa boogie is now, so it might get even worse in the future, which obviously sucks.

i would totally rather have the 570 or 580... but i'm not made of money:

e580:$1,680

honestly, if i had the price range of $1,680-$2,800 i wouldnt be looking at engl. especially just for a preamp... i could get a much better head for that kind of money. but $500 is pretty fair....

I don't know man, it's all wired for 220 volts here... plus sending it would cost a shitload. all in all, its going to be just as expensive, or even worse...

if you want a good engl deal, check out ebay.de sometimes they ship abroard. but... you have to know someone who can mod the amp to 120v (another power transformer I guess?)

yeh, the e580 is probably one of the best preamps ever made.. but for $2,800 i could do better, and in head form too, like a triamp, slo100, pittbull, ect...

oh well, fuck it, this thin is like $388 with 30 minutes left... plus $35 for shipping.

that's only $50 some odd dollars cheaper than a brand new one. not worth it.

i was planning on going with the 530 teamed up with a mesa 3/95 poweramp.... but now i'm almost out of preamps with reasonable price tags, i owned the mesa v-twin, liked it, but needed more channel options. bought the bogner/hafler triple giant, wasnt a very good high gain preamp. bought the jmp-1(still for sale), looking for more less marshall-ish tones. bought the psa-1, too trebly and chimey at high volumes. the triaxis is a joke of a preamp comared to pretty much all i've owned, the quad is to big.. ect... oi.

i'm thinking about just selling out and going with a head.

kinda the reason why I quitted rack gear. the really good stuff is too expensive and I really didn't need a rack, it was a bitch to carry around if I would get everything I wanted. the quad is a great preamp but not very modern if you ask me. not in sound and not in use, but its tweakers heaven, like most mesa's....

the 530 and a mesa poweramp, mmm. can't sound bad... but costs a bunch.

i'm not totally ditching rack gear... just the preamp + power amp thing.
i'm still gonna have a rack for a powerconditioner(trying to find a furman pl tuner model), fx unit(probably back to the intellifex), decimator prorack G, and then something else to fill another space.



i preffer it to the recto recording pre and the triaxis. even for high gain tones.
but more money than i want to drop, and way to many spaces to take up.

yeah, i could grab the 3/95 for about $600, and the 530 for like $400-500-ish
so really, about as much as i plan on dropping on a head.


i'm thinking about just buying the triamp... it's my dream amp and all.. i'm just afriad if i buy one, it'll end my GAS.
