emg-ab

hey
i've ordered a set of emg active pickups (81 & 85), and i was thinking of getting an emg afterburner for it. its supposed to increase the gain on them or sumthin like that.
what i wanted to know is, will it have much of an impact on the sound of the pickups and if so, for will the change be better or for the worse?
has anyone actually got it and/or used it?
will it permanently change my sound or will i be able to turn it on and off?

sorry for the 20 questions, but i just want to make sure before i buy it

cheers

the afterburner operates as a push/pull toggle connected to one of the tone knobs. You pull the tone knob up and it activates the afterburner and from their you move it clockwise if you want more gain and vice versa. If you dont want to use it, all u have to do is push the tone knob down and it turns it off.

I played around with one on my mates jackson dkmg. It was fun to mess around with and it added alot of gain to the crappy passive emgs already in the guitar. I heard it gave out a lot of feedback (never heard any myself though) but that aint nothing a good noise gate cant correct.

You probly have good reason. I swear everytime i see a guitar go into a music shop to get fixed it comes out looking worse than before it went in. Why dont u ask someone else that u trust to do it (maybe an electrician), or even do it ureself? And if worse comes to worse and that store owner does end up doing it, make sure ure there to watch him.
