Preamp patch switching?
OK so i was doing more research(my gear research will never end) on the GSP 21 legend and i hear that the GSP and along with most other processors and or preamps have a silent delay when patch switching
i was wondering
A-How true is that?
B-What preamps have good patch switching?
C-is there any trick to geting around this delay?
D-anyone have good information on preamps to check out?
see i wanted to get a digitech gsp 21 legend but i wanted to use it live and have a lead boost and take advantage of its effects and all but i just cant have a moments delay between switching patches
so help me here

i think you're reffereing to latency. a split second in between patch changes. common problem in digitally controlled units, especially ones with fx.. my jmp-1 and psa-1(fuck yeah!) don't really have a problem... the triaxis, access, and mp-1 don't really have it bad either.
my old valve fx(the poor man's gsp) had it, but it's seriously like a small fraction of a second. and it was it's worst when changing fx. presets without fx werent as noticable.
one way around it is tap tempo with fx, also, a line mixer....

i think the jmp-1 has plenty of gain...
my main heavy/brutal distortion on it is:
gain at max on od2 with mids at +2(it goes -6 to +6) bass at 6, treb and presence at 5, bass shift off.
when i used a sonic maximizer(like 10 o clock on each knob) in the fx loop it was alot heavier sounding, but i turned the mids to +6 to make up for the scoop that the bbe was giving me.
if you want buzzsaw pantera, oozing with gain, tight as hell, and devoted to crunch every little sound coming out of your guitar distortion. i think you should check out the tech 21 sansamp psa-1.
i just got a psa-1, i'll be posting a review maybe later today, i spent a couple hours on the fucker already very high and very low volumes., i want a few more hours before i make a fair review. it's got it's ups and downs...

right now i have a power conditioner, a boss ns-2, a little boss chomatic tuner, the peavey cs800(poweramp) and the psa-1(currently in place of the jmp-1) and an ibanez msp 1000....
i ditched the bbe, and i'm currently fx-less, i'm looking for a replifex at a good price...

dunno man... not sure it'd be worth it for you in canada anyways... i'm asking about $375 local, $400 shipped, but it'd be more to go out of country.
what kind of tone are you looking for? i mean, "it has enough gain for me" but i'm the guy that would rather push a medium gain amp to it's limits than not push a high gain amp at all. it wont do the tight s.s. buzzy dying fetus thing. it's more of a toneful, thick sound, listen to the "then blood" and "her candane" recordings in my sig for some good jmp-1 examples.

what tone am i looking for
well obvioulsy something high gain, but it doesnt need to be super insane high gain i just need to like the voicing of it.
I dunno i might just be some cheap digitech legend preamp with out a footswitch and buy a lead boost pedal or something
hows that sound?

no, those arent my bands... those are my friends bands... mike(one of the guitarists) plays for both of them, he's running a jmp-1 into a mesa simul 2/95, with an emg 81/85 loaded ibanez artist and a marshall 1960a cab.
his rig is what made me GAS for the jmp-1 for a long time. i think he normally just max's out the od 1 channel. for a thick and toneful yet still heavy distortion. but that's not as brutal as it can get, od2 has a little more gain and a "tighter" overall sound, and then if you were to throw a bbe in the fx loop it will really bring out more lows(tighens them to) and give more clarity to the highs. but if used with extreme settings, it'll really scoop it and make it sound "fake"... i also don't really the bass shift option on the jmp-1, makes it too rumbly for my tastes..
and high out put pickups help alot..
as for the digitech legend... if it's anything like the digitech valve fx i had. it could do some pretty good high gain tones.
listening to the db, vid.the jmp-1 probably wont get those tones... it's alot thicker sounding and not quite as shrill.. though alot would depend on you cab and guitar.

sounded pretty good..
the valve fx was a pretty cool unit, tons of cool fx and pretty decent preamp tones... not as nice as the gsp's or anything.. but also like half the price.

what do you need compression for? what line 6?

Well id want something to serve as a lead boost pedal for live situations
and my line 6 dm4 has compression but its pretty noisy
so i could run my guitar through the pedal and just stamp on it whenever i play a lead
i dunno how good of an idea that is though
maybe i should just get a boss Ge 7
about the feeding the line out thing
how well would that work?
