I wonder. The megadeth album "Peace sells........but who's buying" is said to be one of the four big trash metal albums along with Reign in Blood, Master of Puppets and Among the Living. But it doesn't have a single trash song, nothing that is even close to Battery or Angel of Death, and it has mostly slow songs. How can this be called trash metal?

Thrash is metal with punk influences and more penationic licks then anything else.

And so what if the album is "SLOW" its heavy as fuck, take S.O.D. for example, march of the S.O.D. is THE thash riff IMO, its not fast just all out ass kicking music.

You did listen to the whole album, right? Most of Black Friday, Devil's Island, and Bad Omen are classic examples of speedy thrash work. Most of the Peace Sells album is faster than Among the Living. Besides that, speed doesn't really define thrash, although it is an important element.



You're probably just being a wise-ass, but since some people don't know, I'll answer anyway. Americans invented a new kind of metal around the early 80's (deal with it, bitches), and they named it thrash metal. Some stupid foreigner fucked up the translation, and they've been calling it 'trash' metal abroad ever since. Not only that, but they actually think they have the right word and scoff at those who correctly refer to it as thrash metal. I haven't seen such pompeity come from people so blatantly wrong since I last went to church.



There is no doom to early Megadeth, and limited folk and jazz influences at best. Early Megadeth is perfect thrash with huge blues and 70's punk rock influences. Darkness Descends doesn't own Peace Sells, it's not even Dark Angel's best work. Leave Scars shits all over Darkness Descends. Leave Scars is probably as good as Peace Sells.



Vulgar Display of Power isn't thrash (and therefore irrelevant), and certainly isn't as good as Dark Angel's best work, although probably as good or better than the album he mentioned.

It's all a matter of style. Thrash bands are alike in certain core elements, but vary on what they use those elements for.

Megadeth is not as fast as Slayer, but about a million times more musical.

Kerator is different than Exodus.
Exodus is different than Overkill.
Overkill is different than Annihilator.
Annihilator is different than Sepultura.
Sepultura is different than Flotsam and Jetsam.

Yet, they're all thrash.
