This is an excellent Forum...I'm learning alot...however, I live on my own and have extremely limited funds...and DO understand that the distortion is KEY with a great amp.
However I use a Boss DS-1 Pedal for my distortion and am running through an abortion of an excuse for an Amp. A Dean M-16 (please dont laugh too hard)
Is the Boss DS-1 a good choice or like BLS mentioned.....a waste of money?
What kind of minimum $ are we looking at for a poor gal to get a good amp seeing I am very novice and only play for personal pleasure?
Thanks fellas

If it's for personal pleasure and not to make a living then don't spend your entire account on something expensive. I suggest make do with what you got.

well, you can learn a lot here
most of us have good gear because some of us play a lot, in bands and on stage etc. you don't need a stack for playing at home, you see. if you're in a band or jamming with friends a lot it might be a good idea to invest in a nice amp. a nice amp is pricey though.
if you like your ds-1, enjoy it. theres nothing 'wrong' with it, it's just a basic distortion pedal, it won't make a crappy amp sound like a boutique amp. but it might make the amp sound a bit better!

most of the people here arent happy with what they have, so they strive to buy more louder, better equipment, so they do. If your happy with what you have, stay with it. dont waste money.

It changed everything. The Overdrive on the amp is like listening through a wet towel....so I keep it off and run the pedal. I keep the distortion maxed but have to keep the power a little over half to match the volume of the amp when I go clean.
None of my firends play...they sit around and pack bowls while I jam for em....heh heh

my guitar top only costs about double of your total
but. I am a gear junkie and I use it on stage about weekly these days, so I kinda need the stuff I have.

Yes...it's a great sound compared to back when I ran through the crappy amp.
Of my 3 guitars I have
Ibanez EX, was my 1st, paid 120.00 at a pawn shop about 5 yrs ago.
Cheapy Fender Strat single humbucker...bought new on sale for 150.00 (it's not very good)
My fav is an Epiphone LP Special II bought on sale for 380.00
The Epiphone has the feel I like....fat and heavy but what's odd is my Ibanez....that fucker stays in tune forever....like 3 times longer than the two newer ones...crazy huh?
I posted pics of em in the photoalbum in the chit-chat forum.

Want to see my amp? You don't need to see it. I'm using it to talk to you right now. Besides, I'm sure you've seen computers before. Yes, I'm serious.
My entire setup includes that super terrific happy gitbox, like three 20 foot cords (even though I only need one), and my computer. Most of the time I just play unplugged.

eat shit.
@Bia - why would you buy 3 guitars, especially if all 3 suck? i suggest you sell 2 of your guitars, sell your amp, sell your pedal, and buy a better amp.

Eh, chris has made some great tabs with that thing, so if it works for him, more power to him.

Yeah, I'm becoming more and more specific about what I like. Specifically US made jacksons, those things are orgasmically good.
