Decisions, Decisions, Decisions
Well tits guys
i cant get an avatar cab anymore for shipping reasons..
so im wondering if i should either buy another cab (my current cab is a yahama 4x12 which is pretty good) thats not an avatar but that is good like a marshall or mesa or something but thats more money then id rather spend right now.
so what Id rather do is buy a Digtech GSP preamp (or maybe an ada mp1)
and get a peavey CS 800 power amp (talk about industrail power)
then maybe in like 3 months time ill get like a sweet mesa cab or something?
which is a better plan?

so you're taking my advice on the cs 800? damn... i wont be the loudest fucker on these forums anymore
for a cab, i never really gave into the mesa marshall cab craze... all three of my 4x12's are underdog's... my fullstack cab setup is a pair of vintage ported peavey 4x12's, i bought for dirt cheap empty and then bought nice speakers to put in them... my halfstack cab rig is a vintage crate, i bought used, i'm currently running eminence swamp thangs in it.
but honestly, i can say i think my cabs sound better to me than any mesa or marshall cabs i've ever played..
try just buying like 4 new speakers to load up your yamaha with... if that fails i guess a second hand 1960 marshall cab wont run to much.

buy my 1960b. I fucking want something else now I played my own head through an Ampeg and a Mesa cab (with 2 black shadows and 2 v30's, half open back!)
Marshall's do fine. I have to say for their cash they're probably the best you can get. they're around used and they're not too expensive. I would rather get a marshall then a peavey or avatar or whatever cab, they're build to last and they're not too heavy. (Engl cabs are twice as heavy. it sucks if you're playing every week!)

i dunno... i think avatars are just as good, maybe even better imo than marshalls. but it all depends on your speaker config i guess.
why the hell are engl cabs twice as heavy?

beats me, they're fucking heavy though, I allways get pissed off when we have to move our cabs out of the place where we rehearse! (long staircase and shit)
seems like the construction is way more rigid, the wood is thicker (you can definetly see that at the front!) and ofcourse its got that huge steel grille... It's no fun. but they do have a lot of low end. the v60's sound more muddy then the v30's though. but they're 300 bucks more if you buy a new cab.

reminds me of my peavey cabs... though they're probably the nicest cabs ever imo soundwise... they're very heavy and really big and awkward... i got sick of carrying them around.. i still move them on occasion and all... but the crate is much lighter and easier, i can carry it up and down stairs, on stages, in my van ect.. all by myself. and it's still just as good if not better sounding imo than a 1960 or a recto cab. no joke.

The standard ENGL cabs are made out of MDF.. Im not sure if thats heavier or lighter than plywood though.
I say if the yahmaha cab is of good quality, then take out the stock speakers and pop in some Eminence Govenors

anyone interested in two 8 ohm swamp thangs? i think i want to keep two and team them up with a pair of g12-100k's(or whatever are in the mode 4 cabs)....
but the new eminence stuff definately deserves a good look imo. definately equal quality of celestions.

I think Eminence makes a better quality product than Celestion.. Eminence are made in AMERICA.. Celestion has moved most production over to china

from personal experience.
if you want just channel switching, any 1 button footswitch should work.
