How Loud Do You Play?

When I'm playing classic rock with my band the Marshalls on about 4. If I was playing metal it would be between 6-8. I saw The Red Chord, and they were real loud. Like on 8-9 or somthing. Don't know if this thread is any good.

with my cs800(2x400w) monster of a poweramp, i would over power my old guitarist's dimed 5150 stack(120w tube) buy only running one side turned up to maybe like 3-4.

i always find myself saying my rig is louder than yours.

I don't really know what mine is on atm. 1 or 2 I'm sure. I only play as loud as not to hurt my families ears or mine while at home. I got a full stack so the sound seems to travel and feel louder than it is.

doesn't that also depend on how many w your amp is?

I usually play on 4-5 with a 35w amp...

its hard to tell because everyone has different amps.

the savage60 at home is on 2, or 1,5 or something. I'm trying to find some mesa combo like the subway rocket 20w tube amp because they're portable and shit. I want something like that.

the powerball during bandpractise its at 2/3, during gigs it at 5 which basically makes your ears bleed. I never turned it past 6, sounded like it wanted to tear my marshall cabinet to shreds (and the sound guy wasn't to pleased hehe)

I don't use the powerball at home, it's not meant to be played at 1. its just too loud, plus I have the savage for at home which is allmost just as good!

usually its damn loud at gigs, because I don't pay much attention to monitors, I only want our other guitarist to come through those because I can hear the drums just fine. I don't give a rat's ass about the rest.

well first of all, live bands don't just turn their amps all the way up and play. They god PA systems amplifying a pretty quiet guitar sound. I play metal on 5 with the band but that's on my marshall stack. If i was using my old little fender, it would be on 10 and still not be loud enough. This thread is dumb

i like to play with more amp sound and a small PA. usually i dont get what i want.most of the time you dont really need PA.a good ole half-stack, or even 2x12 combo will get loud enough.well maybe not the 2x12.it'll get loud but the speaker placement will make the sound all wierd.monitors are nice though.
tells me how good i sound.

not all venues are the same, some don't have huge PA's, only big enough ones for mostly vocal mix and maybe a little kickdrum. then other huge ones where everything is mic'd.

the best way imo to get a good stage volume, take turns with each member jaming with the acoustic drummer if your amp is just loud enough to hear through that, leave it there... then mic it all up and the PA will increase the overall volume. the PA will help spread and mix the sound better and give it that little extra something. but i despise techs that make bands turn way down. you just lose so much.

but hell, i could just push the PA with the other side of my poweramp.

Watt's really dont mean much..

Car stereo's are rated at like 1500 watt's to make niggers and wiggers think its louder.

I dont see the point in replacing anything but the stock car speakers.. if you have to put the shit in a box then it isent worth it.

watts do mean alot... for me it's all about usable headroom. because in the s.s. realm, headroom is key with volume. my little fender rocpro 1000(100w s.s.) is loud, but if you turn it past 5, it's almost unusable because it doesnt have a whole lot of headroom. technically i'm pretty much only using 400w because i'm only running one side, but it's capable of getting as loud if not louder than a dimed out 100w tube head before it clips(you know when it clips because a little light comes on).

I play kicky loud unleashing rhythm of raging power. I make power beyond average human capacity. PLAY KICKY LOUD OK!!!

I instructed him to play on amp of 1000 Watt or higher. Did he listen to me? He didn't! He's cheap. He's stupid. He couldn't play kicky loud through the solo. He lost the gig. POW! What's that noise? The new guitarist making power beyond belief!

Benny Moto's philosophies can be projected on all aspects of life.

Car stereo amps are rated for maximum peak power consumption from your battery so you can spec out the system properly without killing your engine.

Home and pro audio amps are typically rated for maximum average power delivered to the speakers so that you can spec out your system to achieve the decibel level you are looking for.

All speakers are typically rated for peak handling capacity and if you don't properly factor in differences between average and peak ratings, you may end up blowing your speakers. Your speaker network should always be rated for at least twice the power of your amp to be safe and ensure a long life.

(I play with my 100W Marshall at 6 to match the drummer's level. 1 or 2 when at home.)

at home - vol on 1 on a marshall 30w combo

practice in a rehearsal room - vol on 8 on a marshall jcm900 and
vol on 4 or less on a marshall jcm800

although the 800 is just too fukken loud, if i had it my way, it would be on 9 or so, but on 4 its still overpowering the drums, and the drummer hits like a fukken sledgehammer.

Why are you comparing a pedal to a professional rack?

Used.. yes the NS2 is a better deal, new.. no way.

because that is the pedal i use and that's how much i paid for it... if i were to get "the best" noise suppressor... the pro rack G shits all over the pedal, and it costs $250 new, and if you're lucky enough to find one used, it wont be much cheaper.

get it? i'm broke... i just dropped $1,200 on a head and now have no money. the $40 on a reliable and high quality noise suppressor pedal was worth it. the ns-2 is totally good enough.

I've played in a room before with a band (live drums and stuff) and it was so loud that you couldn't hear yourself scream--no mics on the drums, either. But without a band, I'm a pussy. I'm always afraid I'll disturb the other people in the house, so out of courtesy I play it pretty low volume--I definitely don't need a microphone to sing, and I can't really do a good voice anyway because it'd be too loud over the music.
I remember the first time I got together with a drummer for a band. I had a 40-or-so watt Peavey amp for my guitar. He would bang on those drums like crazy, but I didn't turn the amp above half-way up. So I was right next to it and could hear it a little, but he kept saying "crank it up, man". But I didn't wanna blow the amp or be too loud.
Now, I exerience the same thing with other people that aren't as musically "in touch". "You've got a 90-watt bass amp?! Dude, that's way too much for a band! You'll blow the house out!" Eh, I guess we all start out somewhere on the line to heavy metal deafness...
