Help an idiot please
k, heres the thing. just got a new 5 string. i wanna tune this thing down to adgcf. When i have it tuned, there are some songs that i play 16th notes on fast tempos. my finger rests on the string above the string i played on after i hit it. Playing this fast on the e string makes a short click sound when my finger rests on the b string. this only happens with that string. What should i do about this? New strings?
Ya i know im an idiot, dont worry.

I think u mute this string wrong in a way ... maybe ur finger smashed to hard agáint it or the finger release the string a second before muting.

my idea
i think it's more your sound than strings. it sounds like your getting that metallic pop. if that's the case you need to take some high end or upper mids out or tune up 1/2 step so your strings are a little tighter. when your tuned down it makes the string flimsier and causes that pop on the fret. or work on your technique till you can pluck/stroke the string to where you don't get that. there is a way to do it. it's all in the technique. those are my ideas hope it was helpful.

Its clicking because it comes back onto that low (B) string, which you have told us you tune to A? so its going to be even more clicky, if i was you i would just put up with it..

or buy thick metal strings that actually allow you to tune down
or because "regular" strings are designed to be tuned in and around C, D, or E

Almost every seller of strings has different 'gauges' of strings. The heavier the gauge, the better position you're in. Also, if you have pickups with exposed metal on them, the click sound might be the string hitting the metal on the pickup. Obviously this happens because the string is so loose, and the magnetic pickup will really amplify the sound of metal hitting metal. If this is the case, you can push any other string up against the pickup and the same thing will happen (not that this is practical, just so you see that this happens with any string). If your pickup has a protective cover, then the only clicking sound is the string hitting the frets. The solution to both problems can be somewhat solved by raising your strings and somewhat solved by tuning back to standard. If you don't know how to raise your strings, just search "bass guitar setup" in a search engine and you will find all you need to know about adjusting your bass the way you like it.
And to those who are dissing this tuning down stuff:
Let us not forget that bands like Nevermore and Exodus are in A sharp, only one semitone higher, and that some good bands are even in A, like Nile.
I have a five string and personally never see the need to tune down, but I have tuned down before, because I was doing a few shows with a band that plays in E flat, and I didn't feel like playing the fourth fret on the B all the time. (well actually their songs would have been too hard like that ... they were too hard as they were)

I say do away with it. You can always stand in its former location if you need to make use of the perspective it gave you, but will benefit from the ability to situate yourself in different loci with ease.
Destroy the box.
