New Behemoth
Every album, they get more and more death metal. A lot of the symphonic elements are toned down in this one, and more emphasis is placed on tearing the skin off the listener - Zos Kia Cultus on steroids with a debilitating brain injury. I will be listening to this a lot when I am in a bad mood.

Yeah, Demigod is pretty good. Obvious comparisons with Nile will be drawn due to the middle eastern feel to Demigod but I feel that Nergal has got some nice ideas of his own that can stand up to any criticism levelled at them. His style of playing is a little more refined than Karl's and isn't as chaotic so even though the album is influenced by Egypt and its indigenous music, it is still very much set aside from Nile. When listening to the album I get images of regal grandeur as opposed to the struggle for power amongst the Gods that I envisage while listening to Nile. It's a very worthy album and I wouldn't have any problem recommending it to both death and black metal fans.

The only thing I have to criticize about Behemoth is the voice...it sounds tooo much pitched (I know it isnt but sometimes it sounds like two voices).
But although behemoth is a very nice band ((and inferno a really good drummer)

Probably not in the way you're thinking. It just is in comparison to the newer stuff. The harmonic BM elements are significantly toned down in the last two albums, and especially in this last one. This is not Nightwish.
Whoever said Nile is thinking in the right direction - I think these guys sit in "frozen pagan wasteland" listening to Catacombs wondering how they can be less gay.
Oh, and the drumlines in Demigod are really impressive.

Though as John said there are differences with Nile and Behemoth, I think Demigod is very similar to, and as good as In their Darkened Shrines. I really hope the improvement of their music continues onto their next release.

Behemoth was one of my favorite bands, but then the new cd came out.... what the hell happened to the singing?? He sounds like a fuckin static robot yelling too close into the mic. The new music on the other hand is really good as usual

Definitely this most recent one, and I sincerely doubt you'll be disappointed. Thelema was one of my favourite discs from 2000.

One word: Australia. European releases of European bands are notorious for this sort of thing.

behemoth is bad ass!!! i saw them last night at the galaxy theater and they tore that shit up. But wasnt behemoth originally a 3 piece? i saw them there with a bassist and from wut i remeber it only used to be Nergal, Havok, and Inferno. But the bassist was pretty good, and his bas looked bad ass, looked like a beast but the body ws a little bigger and the headstock was different too. I have Pandemonic Incantations, Thelema 666 and Zos Kia Cultus, so i didnt recognize most the songs they played cuz they were off of demigod, but it was all fuckin awesome. Inferno is an INCREDIBLE drummer. when he was warming up on the double pedals, i was in awe

Ive heard new Behemoth, and it bores me quite terribly. I was hoping the old stuff would be more appealing to my taste, but Im now hearing otherwise. thanks, FBS. I was probably just over exaggerating, to myself, your use of the word "symphonic". oh well.

The old material is a bit variational. From the Pagan Vastlands is very raw and melodic Black Metal (which production blows) with some acoustic parts. Sventevith and Grom are bit different, those also got many melodic parts (actually all the songs are mostly just monotonically melodic with one or two riff(s) making it) but the music is much more simple and tighter, like in the way of Darkthrone's Transilvanian Hunger. You should try From the Pagan Vastlands, if bad production and very simple music doesn't bother you, the feeling and atmosphere of it makes it quite interesting and great release. The latter releases might also work but try some mp3s first.

Yeah, I just heard behemoth a couple days ago, they fucking rock! I think That the thelema stuff was some of the best, personally. And inferno is a really good drummer too.
