I agree, they're very under rated.

I just noticed that "Epic" by Borknagar wasn't on the list.

That Isis album is good... but #10? I dunno... Meshuggah deserves #1. That fucking EP (one song, really... can you count that as an album?) is just fucking insane. And I keep hearing good shit about Kreig
And I agree... I can't fucking believe STD (hey, what a coincidence... hehehe) wasn't on the list. Definately better
than "Panopticon."

Fuck, I just realized that they didn't have Woods Of Ypres' "Pursuit of the Sun..." on there. WHAT THE FUCK! Seriously under-rated... Especially considering that travesty of a band called The Haunted was included on the list.
People know nothing about music...

I knew when i saw the title of the thread the list was gonna suck. And that it did. After seeing that Epitaph, Souls To Deny and Visceral Bleeding's Transcend Into Ferocity were not on there, I vow to never buy another copy of this magazine again.

Wait wait wait, where the fuck is Helping the World to See? They put The Haunted on the list but not Vehemence! Dammit I lost faith in humanity... again.

Mastodon winning isn't much of a surprise as it seems that every journalist from Alabama to Afghanistan is climbing over each other in their quest to extract the band's seminal fluid. However, I thought it was pretty much a given that Suffocation would make that list and I couldn't believe what I was reading when I didn't see it - I had to read through it three times to check that I hadn't overlooked it.
One death metal album (coming in at a mighty 33) and two grind albums out of 40? Has it really been that bad a year for the genre? I personally don't think so. Criminally overlooked? Yes.

I fucking hate Mastodon. Every single album I liked this year (except Tempo of the Damned) was left of the list. I wouldn't really expect any better from a rag, though, even a supposedly 'true' metal rag.

I was just thinking something along those lines, with more cunts. It's a vaguely commercial metal 'zine - what do you expect, every fucking TR00 KVLT band you're so goddamn proud you've heard of to be shoved in and conforming to your exact order of preference??
For the life of me, I CANNOT understand the sheer weight of quivering smegmatic praise heaped upon Leviathan. I thought Remission was great - different, interesting, waiting to go somewhere. I listened to it a pigshit of a lot. Now, Leviathan sounds like Remission with water in its semen. It's not bad, but it's fucking frustrating to shit because it's regressive. Ain't no step forward. Why does the merest hint of non-4/4 time turn mainstrean people to jelly? Like it's something new?? Eww. Music journalists must be fucking, fucking, fucking stupid.

i would agree with you there bro, how the hell could they choose that piece of rubbish over finntroll's "nattfödd"?! something about the haunted, they waited two years to release the next album (THMMDI) and got a fantastic thrash album, then another 3 years to release the even better 1KW, and now the following year they churn out the watered-down-metalcore album entitled re-VULVA.....peter dolving must be a bad influence on this band.

SunnO))) deserves #1. Even if every band on the list stayed on the list, there is some switching around that need to be done. However, it's already published so there is nothing we can do about it.

We aren't expecting every single 'tr00 kvlt band' who released something that tickled our anus' to make the list. Its just fucking moronic that bands that suck (The Haunted, for example) get praised for their dickless bullshit, when bands that truly reach a milestone get fucked over for Mastadon and DEP. Oh, not to mention that heap of shit called Pig Destroyer. I can't believe they haven't stopped making records yet. I was hoping they would have gone the way of Seth Putnam, and realized that they are better comatose than making music.

Goddamn!! Converge is...cant describe...disgusting.
I´m sorry but theire just bad, and their vocalist should hang himself or something.
And...uhm I dont give something about lists like these...because I´m not really interested in that, what some "specialists" have to say about music.
So I´d sit down and write my own list, if I ever bought World downfall

At least they got Meshuggah. Well, that is kinda an insult considering what is on the list and what else they SHOULD have put up there

I think that all metal genres shouldn't be listed on a one single list, there are many different elements that makes some metal genre good and in some other that doesn't matter (like in Black Metal people appreciate the music's atmosphere and feeling, but on Death Metal that on avarage doesn't really matter (atleast it assume so)), there should be one metalhead, whose into that particular genre, per one genre's list to valuate the following years release to create a top-10(?) list.
If all must be harrowed into one single list in the way: -"these five are very good doom metal releases" ; "but these 8 are very good death metal releases, they should all belong to the top-40 list" (and there are about 6 slots space for more bands). Then they almost like 'raffle' those releases that, OK lets put two doom metal releases and three death metal releases into that list, but in what order? Mine are much better than any death metal stuff, so then we have to fight, and who wins the battle can arrange the releases to his desireable order (I think there has been a normeus fight about the first place)- the result wouldn't really serve all minds (well actually not everyone like reviewers views afterall on arrangement of releases even if it would be on this "one list per genre genre"-way).
