does anyone know any scales commonly used in folk metal or just folk music, particularly irish folk?

hmm it still looked fucked up.

What's this all about?

check the music theory part (viking metal)

it has the same scales as folk.

In Irish music and "folk metal", Dorian mode is probably what you're thinking of (root note is 2nd note of a major scale). Here's a site about the Irish Folk scales.

well darky, their lyrical theme is celtic/ancient scottish mythology so they do use folk scales from that era.

Im not agreeing with you, celtic lyrics won't say they use those influences on scales... look at amon amarth as well, they have viking lyrics but their music is black/death metal... complete different.

yeah amon amarth is not viking at all apart from the lyrics but absu has some folk influence as was said, you just gotta hear the right songs. by the way bro, congratulations on taking out top spot

morbid guitar, sorry for the criticism but if you play that with one finger, you would probably need 15 inch chode fingers to hit all the right notes.

Could you name me some songs of Absu which have those folk scales?

I don't know that much about that band.

i only have one album, tara (V) so that's not much help but heres some songs from that album:

Stone Of Destiny (...For Magh Slecht And Ard Righ)
Four Crossed Wands (Spell 181)

of course i'm not that good with scales, i could be completely off.....

also might i add, just for the record, this band is one of the least ridiculous black metal bands on the face of the earth. and personally, despite the fact their american, i always think of medieval scotland when i hear them.
