Lead

I have been playing for a little over a year now. I always played fast, power chord typ music (Dimmu Borgir-Spellbound, Hybrid Stigmata, etc slayer-War ensamble, to name a few) I would really like to get my lead down. I really want to be able to play some children of bodom, Maiden and solos. What should i practice to be able to play lead better?

start with easy solos, like sabbath and maiden, and take em slow. dont go for speed at first go for accuracy, then once you can play the licks slow then work on the speed of them and slowly work the speed up

practice scales and buy yourself a metronome

learn the major scale. then learn modes and how to use them

learn how harmony works.

the metronome will help you build up your speed a lot (its not easy though).

make you you pick alternitavely up down up down!

learn as much theory as possible as it will help a lot

Go out to a guitar store and pick up a book on lead guitar/soloing basics. Ive always thought its better to get an actually book than to study online.
