mixing pickups

is it possible to mix active and passive pickups

ie, mixing passive pickups such as seymour duncan's or dimarzio's with emg active pickups.

from what i have heard, its a bitch to do... and if you try to get someone at a local music store to do it, say "dimes guitar is active/passive"... it will shut them up

cool, what combination do you suggest?

i want an emg 81 at the bridge, but i dont know what passive would go well with it.

you can mix actives and passives, but it's a bit more complicated than passive+passive or active+active.

It isn't that difficult

You need to place a small preamp after the passive in order to A: match the gain of the active and B: match the impedance. EMG sells a tiny preamp (PA-2) that can serve this purpose.
