Well now i am thinking of going the seperate pre amp and power amp route

and i was thinking of getting a Digitech GSP 21 preamp (thats right innards im copying you)

but i was wondering what would be the best power amp for a stereo 4 ohm 240 watt 4x12?

i need Extreme volume and Extreme Brutality......

VHT 2:90:2 if you need the extra 40 watts over the 2:50:2.

They have a high resale too. Like $700-$800 used for a 2:50:2. But imo, they are the best.

as far as poweramps go, my favorite makers, are vht, mesa and engl.... you just cant go wrong with them... but you can go broke.

peavey's tube poweramps are also really good for the money.
something like a peavey classic 50/50 maybe? it's 2x50w in stereo or 1x100w bridged in mono. it sports 12 friggen tubes. and they're totally reasonably priced...

do you need stereo operation? if not, i know a dude that's selling a classic 120(120w mono) for only like $160 usd + shipping. that's like half as much as classic 50/50's and classic 60/60's go for.

that digitech preamp isnt bad... a local studio dude i've worked with has a couple of them... pretty good stuff. better than a pod imo. quality fx and big range of tones. capable of brutality.

if you want a really brutal yet cheap preamp... look into an ada mp-1, those things are shred machines, loaded with gain. but if you want more rythem-ish tones as well as face melting solo sounds, i say check out the 3.666 mod or the 3tm.

i run my shit through one side of it.. and then the other side can be for PA monitors or whateve else i need to power.

comparing one side only(400w s.s.) to my classic 50/50(100w tube) in volume, the cs800 can drown out the DIMED 50/50 before the cs 800 even thinks about clipping.

now think how loud that is... i can seriously jam and gig out of just one side of the 50/50 (only 50w tube)... so no matter where i am or who i'm jamming with, volume is no problem.

a while back when my old guitarist was ampless and i still had my bogner/hafler triple giant and my jmp-1 at the same time, i just ran him through one side and me through the other. it was great.

The poweramp ill probably be getting will either be a carvin DCM 600 or Carvin DCM 1000-1015. Not sure yet though, im sure 300 watts per channel is fine, but having an extra 15 band graphic might be cool too.

i'd say yes because the nice thing about having such a powerful poweramp, you don't really need to turn it up very much. especially if you were to run both sides. sometimes i run it with a 300w g12t-75 cab, and sometimes i run it with a 600w eminence swamp thang cab...

the most i've ever needed to turn this thing up was about 10-11 o' clock, and that was jamming with a dimed 5150 halfstack, a 350w 8x10 bass rig, a drummer that's loud as fuck with a mic'd kick drum, and a big PA(2 18" subs,4 12" floor monitors, 2 12" straight monitors).

well getting a new cab is kind of iffy now, im not sure if my american relatives can ship it anymore....but it could go either way at this point...

anyways if i cant get a new cab, im just gonna keep my yahama 8 ohm mono cab and buy a digitech or ada preamp, sell my crate head and buy a power amp

and i might have to resort to a shitty wood rack case

Go with a 31 band. the dbx 231 is a dual 31 and only about $190 and then you can run the monitors through one channel and the cabs through the others.
