Just a verse I wrote for a contest themed 'ocean' at my forum. I thought I'd share it here.

"The Ocean -a poem"

How wide is the ocean
How deep is the sea
How close is my memory
Of you and of me

If I had sailed the ocean to a far distant shore
Would the dolphins been smiling along the way?
I've dipped my hand into the water many times
Just to see the swirls radiate
Hoping they reach another's hand.
I've sat upon the shore listening to the gulls cry
Out of sync with the waves rhythm
Yet blending and feeling accepted all the same.

I've felt the tender kiss of the breeze.
My eyes seeing the shadow of a smile
In the wisps of clouds glowing in the sunlight.
I've smelled the flowers scent
As they waved lace handkerchiefs
Pale against the chiseled shore.
My breath becomes deepened.
Lost in time.

The ocean, too wide with too many excuses.
I back through the sand
Whispering words into the wind that I hope will carry
Across miles, across meadows and mountains
To find rest and peace in the tranquility
In a wisp of a cloud smiling down in the sunlight.
Across the ocean's blue carnival
Wrapped around the fingers resting on the water's edge.

How wide is the ocean
How deep is the sea
How close is my memory
Of you and of me
