Its a multi effects unit/preamp,and a amp and cab moddeler.So it includes modulation effects,compresors,delay,distortion/overdrives ect.And it simulates different famous amps and cabs.
Its probally the best of its category for the price,and they just brought out the XT Live,wich is a floorboard,with an expression pedal and switches to control presets ect,similar contex as the BOSS me-50 or digitech's GNX range.They are pretty versatile,and they are usb compatible,so you can download patches off the net.Behringer make their v-amp,wich is similar to the POD,but a bit cheaper,if you want to consider something similar,also available in rackmount models.And yes they are good at what they do.

so does that mean you could connect your guitar to the amp, set some uber cool distortion or different tone, then record on to the computer or even get a cable and connect it to your amp?
if so, then, woah, i need one!

nothing beats the real thing... but that's not to say you can't get good tones from these things... the cab simulators, thought not top notch, are cool for going direct... tons of different voiced distortions, loads of fx... and you can line it up into complex chains and stuff.
so if you need a shit load of tones, and tons of fx for some ametuer recording and shit... go for it..

i like the vox floor processor thing.the larger of the two.has 2 expression pedals, seems built very well, and has a pre-amp tube for at least a little tube sound.

I have it (pod xt) and it works great for me because I live in barracks.....but like xdisx said.....you might as well go for the real thing.....I will have the real thing soon (Engl or Mesa) too bad I just can't use it
