trouble starting licks
Any of you end up hitting the first note of a lick like 10 times before you actually do the lick? I guess i get nervous before i do it. Any way to not do that?

Start by plaing the lick very slowly. So slow that you can play it perfectly. Then slowly speed up. When you get to the speed that you start to mess up again, slow down just enough so your playing it perfectly again.
Try to get to the point where your playing slow enough so it's perfect and any faster and you would mess up.
With practice this speed that you can play it perfectly at will increase.

i do that too. like a stutter.
it comes from not knowing the lick well enough.
sure you can play it fine but to play it perfectly you need to know it inside and out. there is two ways to fix it.
1. play it over and over again untill you can do it without thinking.
then just concentrate on getting it right from the start.
2. follow thrashboys advice. it will have quicker results than 1.

Thrashboy is right. Play it half of the actual speed then play it slightly faster each time you play the line perfectly. the nervousness part of it is just your confidence level of what your playing. If you KNOW you can play it, it shouldnt be a problem right? But when you have to think about it and learn something new, its normal to sort of stutter the first few chords.

I kind of have that problem with licks I'm not very comfortable with yet. I've got this metronome going through my head when I play new things and I can't start the lick untill the pulse hits a few times.

i always start slow, and them memorice the pattern how its placed (i do that in a patern) and then faster and faster and faster, it kinda helps to to play it faster than the guys who wrote it on the album do cuz then ur playing along to the song and its slow so its easy for u

break it down... If its like 20 notes in total, then play 4, then add the next 4, then the next 4... like that... AND SLOW IT DOWN!!!
